Delaney: Only Fighting For My Place in the Team
Delaney: Only Fighting For My Place in the Team
Tuesday, 14th Dec 2010 16:29

Defender Damien Delaney has dismissed the claim of a bust-up having taken place between himself and manager Roy Keane, saying the only fight on his mind is one to win back his place in the Blues line-up. Delaney has been out of the Town 18 since returning from his suspension after his red card at Norwich.

The Irish international defender told the official Town site: "I know the club issued a statement dismissing the story and I want to support that. I don't know where the story has come from but it's total rubbish. It's completely untrue.

"The only fight I'm having at the moment is to get back in the team. I need to show the manager that I should be starting games for this football club and the only way I'm going to do that is to keep my head down and work hard on the training pitch and wait for my chance."

Last month, Keane rebutted claims of a bust-up with striker Connor Wickham, claiming the only spat he had had with the young striker was on the go-kart track: “Unless he’s upset about the go-karting, it’s rubbish. I don’t have bust-ups, I’ve told you before.”

agree with all those that say it should be Delaney and Brown, he may have made a mistake but was caught on his wrong foot (and no doubt trying to cover super Zov who against Norwich was awol most of the match.......) on the left of CB Delaney is solid, Brown is really coming good on the right and between them you have a good mix of enthusiasm and experience. Brown does like to press forward to leaving the experience of Delaney to cover. Who knows what the real story is but to not even be on the bench to me is a sign of some form of falling out, or a punishment for the sending off. What kind of work environment is that?

i have not got an axe to grind i promise, Whoppits quotes just shows what is in store for us at Portman road and the press know it and are poised to strike, but i believe what Yorke has written. The bad luck is Keane has probably spent tens of thousands of pounds on pychiatrists etc and will not flip and loose it until after Ipswich are relegated, all the mind bending discussions with his Doctors will stave off any pychotic episodes before Christmas. I bet our training ground is like a tinder box ready to go with the pressure being piled on by poor team selections, poor tactics, poor results, poor training methods, very poor coaching staff, even poorer fans who are getting asked to pay more and more money to watch the most FRUSTRATING RUBBISH AAAARRRGGGGHHHHHH i need my pychiatrist

"repeat after me, i am not an Ipswich fan every thing is ok and i must take my tablets four times a day. Breathe in, breathe out"

I tend to believe there was no fight but could also quite believe the comments from Yorke are true.
I'm just really fed up of the circus that is surrounding our club right now, Keane is a journalists dream and they will look for anything to paint him in a bad light. If we were playing good football and having better results then the news stories would have little impact, but with the current terrible run of results and appaling football currently on show, these constant stories only add to the malaise and general depression surrounding ITFC. I just want to enjoy football again and unfortunately I dont think this is possible whilst Roy Keane is ITFC manager, which is sad and a real shame.

----------- Away in a manger----------- (Alternative lyics!)

Do-away with our manager,
No room for him here,
He's spent lots of money,
And rules players by fear.

The fans are now restless,
And now want their say,
We can't get a re-sult,
Either home or away.

The players are lonely,
The clubs on it's kness,
But Roy Keane still feels ,
The fans he can please.

We love I-T- F- C,
And want to succeed,
By playing great football,
Its results that we need.

Bless all the supporters,
That attend day to day,
And the chance of the Play-offs?
"NOT WITH KEANE IN THE WAY!!!"

I thank you!!

I heard Delaney was considering an offer to represent the Ireland rugby union team in the Six Nations. Their manager was impressed by the way he managed to bring down Grant Holt just by tapping his wrist.

As i've said before. THE PLAYERS HAVE LET US DOWN not the manager!!
Every single game we create goal scoring chances....do we take them? Do we f**k!!!
Our defence makes sunday league mistakes most games.
Now is does not matter if you play for Ipswich Town, Colchester, Real Madrid etc etc etc if you play like that at at the back and dont take your goal scoring chances then you WILL BE PUNISHED!!!!!
Look at the Swansea game, Priskin should have buried his shot which would have made us 2-0 up! Smith should have kicked that ball into row z instead of trying to dribble it out. The Norwich game, O'dea should have kicked that ball over the roof of the stand!
Every single goal in football is the result of a mistake on the pitch somewhere, be it a missed pass on the halfway line or failed clearance.
Its the players who are making the basic mistakes and not taking their chances infront of goal and letting the manager, fans, and club down!
Could you honestly see Scotland, Wickham or priskin getting the same goals as Grant Holt did if they were given the same goal scoring chances??? They would have missed every shot they had.
Yes i know the manager buys these players and sorts out tactics etc etc, but on the pitch all players should feel proud to wear the ITFC shirt and give 100% every single game. They should fight for every single ball, tackle, shot etc.
I dont see that out there at all most match days!
Where are the Matt Hollands, Tony Mowbrays, David Johnsons & Jim Magiltons out there on that pitch?
ITFC is in serious trouble, we have a ego tripped manager and players who feel no pride what so ever to pull on the blue shirt of ITFC. Maybe Norris does (When he is not injured) and maybe G-Mac but the others??? Not a chance!!

For all those fans who are looking to see some decent football at a fair entry price then why not consider watching Hadleigh United FC at the millfield!!!

No managment issues, player bustups etc etc, just good football, and a better atmosphere all round.

Legend ...players will raise their game if they are happy and want to play for their manager look at Blackpool , and equally not perform if respect has been lost for the manager or unrest is behind the scenes look at Englands world cup and Chelsea since Wilkins has gone .
It is the managers job to gel a side who play as a team and for each other with passion and commitment for him and the club, we seem to have neither and from the performances on the pitch a lot of the players are on loan and will be gone soon , a number are out of contract and may be released and perhaps some are just counting the days until a change of the dead man walking ,whatever the reason all is not well and our more than capable squad are under performing massively which at the end of the day is the managers problem .
We had all this talk about players not caring under Magiltons reign ,well to me over the last two years things are a lot worse
