Liverpool and Spurs Again Linked With Wickham Moves
Liverpool and Spurs Again Linked With Wickham Moves
Sunday, 5th Dec 2010 23:56

Liverpool and Spurs have both again been linked with moves for Town striker Connor Wickham. The pair have long been understood to be amongst the front-runners in the chase for the 17-year-old’s signature, along with Chelsea and Arsenal.

According to a tabloid report, the Reds are ready to match Town’s £10 million asking price in January as part of a plan to bring in young British talent.

It’s by no means the first time Liverpool have been mentioned in connection with Wickham with manager Roy Hodgson having been an admirer since his time at Fulham.

Spurs, who made offers of up to £8 million in the summer, have been linked with a £12 million move in January, although that weekend website claim looks like little more than speculation based on previous stories.

Wickham, a Liverpool fan as a youngster, signed a two-year deal with the Blues in April shortly after he turned 17.

Elsewhere, one of Sunday’s tabloids claims Town, Bolton, Everton and Leicester are amongst the clubs interested in winger or striker Kelvin Etuhu, who is said to be on his way out of Manchester City.

The Nigerian spent time on loan at Cardiff last season having previously had similar spells at Rochdale and Leicester.

Time to sell him....
Kevin Etuhu- no chance of getting him at the moment!
Jack Midson is much more likely (from Oxford Utd!)

10 million? Normally I would say "no, give us 40 million please! Or go away..."

But how about 10 million now and a 33% sell on clause. So when he goes to somewhere like Barcelona for 90 million, that's the rest of the 40 million he's worth.

I was never sure if Tottenham ACTUALLY did offer up to 8 mill, so it is true? I don't see why anyone would offer anything big for him at the moment anyway!

Even £4m would enable us to invest in some decent defensive cover. We need experience at the back. Ploughing the money into into a top notch striker will not stop us conceding goals to school boy errors at the back. We can't opt for a "We will score more than you" approach. Winning football matches on a regular basis starts with not conceding goals. If the opposition don't score you are guaranteed at least one point. We have to look at addressing this problem before we spend any money elsewhere. If ME is going to back RK to the bitter end then he needs to give him some money in January to buy a couple of experienced defenders. If not, we will be playing league one football next year.

DONT SELL HIM! this club will be the most boring in England if we do, we are bound to waste it! But and this is a massive But everyone must agree he can only go untill after the semi's

Itfc1981 how is keeping wickham makin us any less boring? Anything over 5 million we should snap their hands off. Having said that how much of this transfer when it happens (let's face it, it's going to) will Marcus Evans want to keep? Don't know how much keane or whoever's the manager will see of it.

Dont make the mistake of assuming ME will give the transfer fee for Wickham to the manager - I very much doubt that will happen.

I have always been of the opinion we should keep him in the past, but I must admit I am beginning to think if we can get £10m for him, we should take it & give the whole £10m to the soon to be installed new manager.....

How about selling wickham, loaning us Dos Santos or Keane, and using the CW money for 2 big tough experienced defenders to sort out our defence?

Two of the goals at the weekend were woeful defending, it soon needs to be sorted or we will be playing colchester in league 1.

COYB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i can see it now, we will sell him, he will come really good and many on here will start to moan about how we let that Connor Wickham go. I think its a pretty tough call personally. A local lad would be fantastic for him to re-find the form he is capable of in a town shirt. Lets see if he plays against Preston, if he doesnt he is on the way out no doubt.

Marcus Evans is a BUSINESS MAN who has had a large amount of his MONEY wasted in the last 18 months - of course Wickham being sold. This is why he was played in a pointless 'behind closed doors' reserve match 3 days before the 'most important game of the season' v Scum. Wickham has the usual mothball injury to keep him in good nick until transfer window opens.
Interesting Fulop is 'injured'/dropped .... and not much news about Mac either....

Just more paper talk!!
Jan window gossip and just a little more pump to had onto Keane.
I dont think there is any truth in this apart from old storys and interest.

Our club needs to rebuild and this type of reporting does not help us!

Anyone who thinks the £10/12m will be available for transfers is dreaming...

...the club made a loss of £14m last year alone, and I wouldn't blame Marcus Evans for pocketing the lot to claw back some of his millions that Magic and Keano have peed away - Lee Martin's transfer fee and wages alone will cost the club £5m+

sell the lot of them and sack keane and start again it cant get any worse

If he's sold to fund the back 4 than that's fine by me !!

I'd keep Macca and Smith (for backup) but that's it. If we could sign Zoovanutter I'd be happy, but I'd not put up the 3.2m WBA would demand.

Connor only has 16 months left on his contract and not played much due to injury - I'd say £10m is good money, his promotion to the U21's is the only plus in an otherwise forgettable season for the young starlet.

Offer him a 5 year deal and see if he signs, if not. Cash in, Simples. Protect ITFC's future - in 10 months he'll be worth a fraction of that and available on a Free in 2012, although I think a payment would be due as he's Under 24?

Still can't work out why Fallon was signed?

Time to sell Wickham and spend the 10 million on two proven strikers and if that means 20k a week then fine.

Priskin and Scotland are playing well, but not scoring goals and we need goals as we cant keep a clean sheet as soon as we let one in the best we can hope for is a draw

Peter Morris - Fullop has an ankle injury and big Mac has had an op on his Achillies and is out until Christmas - what is the point of publishing this over and over again? also Corsham Blue Zoovernutter??? not sure who the nutter his here but on his first two performances id want 3.2 million from WB for taking him! Poor Townsend and Edwards were covering him time and time again when he went awol....

What makes anyone think that the proceeds of selling someone like Wickham will be made available for more players!! Living in dream world.

We supposedly got a significant amount of money for Walters but none of it became available to sign players!!!!
