Kennedy: Blame Us, Not the Manager
Kennedy: Blame Us, Not the Manager
Monday, 15th Nov 2010 10:57

Saturday’s stand-in skipper Mark Kennedy says it’s the players who are to blame for the Blues’ poor form and not manager Roy Keane. Kennedy returned to the side for the 3-1 home defeat to Barnsley after a hamstring injury, only to suffer another one during the second half.

Kennedy said: “This is nothing to do with the manager. The team that goes out there is well prepared. He sets us up well.

“When we cross that line we have to do the business, and at the moment we are not doing it. We’ve got to stop giving away such silly goals. Conceding a third goal early in the second half killed off the game.

“It was just one of those days. But we are still only two points off the play-offs. I think the division is more open this year. With the exception of the top two, it’s much closer between the top and the bottom.”

After Saturday’s game Keane said Kennedy and midfielder Luke Hyam both sustained hamstring injuries and would miss the trip to Hull next Saturday. Central defender Gareth McAuley (achilles tendinitis) and David Norris (ankle) will also be miss out. Despite the injuries Keane said he had no immediate intention of adding to his squad.

Look, we are two points off the play offs, it could be alot worse. although yes this is a poor run of form that we have hit. Keane is not the best manager yet, but he is a winner through and through and he is honest.

Have any of you so called supporters ever thought that the reason our players are scared to try things on the pitch is because YOU will turn on them and BOO or " sarcastically " cheer the passes made by the opposition ? When they hear you booing during or after a game they will try even less as they will not have any confidence or heart left ! The manager can set the team up to win but if they think that a misplaced pass or off target shot is going to get rubbished by the crowd they will not want to be involved in the game and the younger players are , I think , being harmed by that attitude ! We the supporters are as much to blame for the poor play by the boorish behaviour and lack of true support from the stands !

Thanks for the time taken to read my comment and I appreciate your response. Its nice to have open discussion!

Personaly I am not a RK fan. Being from Ireland I still bear a grudge against his decision to turn his back on Ireland (incl his fellow players + fans + nation) during the final preparations of WC 2002. Thats a different mattar and in the past.

There has been a change in RKs attitude in the past 8 years, believe it or not. He has mellowed a little but is still a volatile character. Regardless of my personal feelings towards RK, he has/had a win at all costs mentality which served him well for most of his playing career in club football. He is defensively minded and prefers his players to play a direct, rigid style which lacks creativity from central players. He builds teams that reflected his playing style. This philosophy is RKs version of "winning football".
To answer your question, I would not re-new his contract, regardless if we get promoted or relegated. I agree that his playing style is not suited to this football club. I find it frustrating to watch Ipswich these past few seasons for this reason. I can appreciate the tough tackling and work horse type players but technique, passing ability and creativity are sadly lacking. But its not going to make me stop supporting the blues.
I would like to see a more balanced manager take the reigns (N. Clough has really impressed me this season) but not abandon the youth academy. This is an Ipswich tradition and resource ME and RK have utilised (due to ME unwillingness to splash cash).
But Im not the owner and if RK did get promotion Im sure ME would award him a new contract based on his achievement.
With regards relegation, if we change the manager & staff mid season we would disrupt the players and confuse younger players with new tactics/styles increasing the risk of being demoted, imo. It is important we see the season out and decide from there.
If we did get relegated it would be a spectactular backfire on ME and an utter failure on his part. RK would certainly not get a new contract, there would be a mass exodus of players and we would be reliant on youth to start from scratch. It may also mean the end of RKs managerial career in club football. This would set the club back 4-5 years. Maybe an opportunity to get back to traditional ways?
However I cant see this happening.

Thanks again for your comments!
