Keane Hopes McAuley Will Be At Town For The Long Haul
Keane Hopes McAuley Will Be At Town For The Long Haul
Saturday, 6th Nov 2010 12:00

Central defensive linchpin Gareth McAuley is set to make his 100th appearance for Town at Sheffield United today with his manager Roy Keane hoping that he’ll play many more matches for the club. Keane has revealed that the Blues have received several offers for the Northern Irish international.

The 30-year-old, who joined Town from Leicester City for £1.1 million in the summer of 2008, has impressed Keane in his time at Portman Road: “He’s been one of our most consistent performers this year, particularly earlier in the season when for one or two big games we were missing one or two important players.

“Gareth’s done well, we’re pleased with Gareth, he’s a good player. He’s a good professional. I hope he goes on to play many more games for us.”

Keane says he has received offers for the one-time Lincoln City man but hopes he’ll remain with Town for some time to come: “Loads, but we were determined to keep him. Gareth, hopefully, is going nowhere.”

McAuley is one of 21 Town players out of contract at the end of the season.

Removing the Captaincy from him has seen him improve no end as I think he is now able to concentrate on his game rather than others.

Defeniatly worth a 2 or 3 year deal

GM should be worth a 3 year deal. Of the others the full list is-
Brian Murphy, Gareth McAuley, Damien Delaney, Carlos Edwards, David Norris, Arran Lee-Barrett, Ian McLoughlin, Alan Quinn, Luke Hyam, Troy Brown, Tom Eastman, Colin Healy, Billy Clark, Reggie Lambe, Ronan Murray, Jack Ainsley, David Cawley, Jamie Griffiths and Conor Hourihane, plus Pablo Couñago and Kevin Lisbie, who are out on loan for the season at Crystal Palace and Millwall respectively.

Who should stay and who should we say goodbye to?

Definately say goodbye to: - Lazy Lisbie and Pablo

Alan Quinn - I like him but I can't see him pulling on a town shirt again
Colin Healy (may be offered a coaching role),

Ian McLoughlin - don't hear to much about him now he is 4th choice
Billy Clark - after such promise, he seems to have dropped down the pecking order. Like the other young boys, could and probably should be offered something.

Town should do anything to keep McAuley one of our top players we've had in a long time. He really moulds our back line and gives confidence to Fulop who as well is a fantastic keeper. just scored on his 100th appearance!

Keep it up Town! COYB

Our best defender coming to the peak of his career. Should have been signed up to a new contract already.

Great to see him score on his 100th appearance. I too hope he is with us for a few more years, COYB!

Complete no-brainer. He should already be signed up for at least two more years. Anyone with any understanding of the game knows that centre backs like this do not grow on trees; furthermore they seem to enjoy a career longevity denied to players in other positions. We should be building the team around Big Mac. As I said - a no-brainer. Get a grip SC.
