Carling Cup Discount for Season Ticket Holders
Carling Cup Discount for Season Ticket Holders
Wednesday, 29th Sep 2010 20:04

Town’s adult season ticket holders will pay £2.50 less than non-season ticket holders for their seats at the Blues' home Carling Cup fourth round tie against Northampton on Tuesday 26th October (KO 7.45pm). Adult season ticket holders will be charged £17.50, while adult non-season ticket holders will pay £20 if they buy their tickets in advance.

In addition to the £17.50 price for adult season ticket holders, the club are charging season ticket-holding concessions and over-60s £12.50 and under-16s £3. Season ticket holders are also able to buy additional seats for under-16s for £3 as long as one of the under-16s in the group is a season ticket holder.

For those without season tickets, the equivalent prices are £15 for concessions and over-60s and £5 for under-16s. All prices rise on matchday, to £23 for adults, £18 for concessions and over-60s and £8 for under-16s.

The last meeting between Town and Northampton, who beat Liverpool at Anfield on penalties in the last round, was in the 1987/88 season, also in the League Cup, on that occasion at the second round stage.

The Cobblers, who have been allocated 4,000 tickets for this year's game, came away from the first leg at Portman Road with a 1-1 draw, Romeo Zondervan having scored for the Blues, but Town won at the County Ground, Mich D’Avray (2), Graham Harbey and David Lowe netting for John Duncan’s men in a game which went to extra time.

In the 1977/78 season the Blues won another second round tie, Trevor Whymark (2), Eric Gates, Paul Mariner and Clive Woods scoring the goals.

Overall, the Blues have won 11 games between the teams (nine in the league), 10 (seven) have been draws with Northampton winning 10 (10).

Blues boss Roy Keane previously came up against the Cobblers in the same competition in 2008 when manager at Sunderland, his side winning the tie at the Stadium of Light on penalties after a 2-2 draw having come from two goals behind.

£17.50 for adults wasn't as low as I hoped but by the standards of Mr Clegg and Mr Evans it's not unreasonable!
Credit to them for trying! Now it's down to us the supporters to fill Portman Road and get the lads through to the quarters and maybe just maybe beyond...

I think £17.50 is an absolute rip off for a League 2 cup game for season ticket holders, obversly the loyal fans will go but the 'part timers' wont turn up... asking £20 to watch Northampton?? i think we will be lucky to get over 10,000 for that game.

What is the cut off date for season tickets holders to get their tickets for this cup match.

I don't think that's too bad, my daughter and I are season ticket holders and it will cost me £20.50 for us both.

I think the club have yet again shot themselves in the foot. Like many others I travel a 120 + mile round trip to every league game. £17.50 I am afraid, is not a great incentive. I appreciate the club have overheads, but a tenner a piece and they may have got a better attendance. I can't see more than 5-6K for this?

I may still make the trip, but the price seems excessive in my mind.

Not sure what it is but there is a minimum that the Football League allow clubs to charge, which, given that the minimum in the FA Cup is £15, is unlikely to be as low as £10. The League take 10% of the income with both clubs splitting the rest.

Poor. A low attendance will maybe make those who set the prices finally sit up and take notice.

I suppose if you buy the seats near the centre of Britannia Upper the price isn't bad, but for those who prefer the cheaper areas of the stadium it isn't a brilliant offer considering we will probably rest some senior players. Still, I shall be there, hopefully cheering them onto the quarter finals!!

Thanks for the clarification. If that's the case then fair enough - although sadly I fear ITFC may end up with 75% of the stadium empty. Perhaps it's time for the league to reconsider? I simply can not see the logic. Charge less - more people go - income will be higher for all parties! Then again, what do I know - I'm not on the FL board!

Well at least Mr.Clegg trying. Good to see him taking ST holders into consideration and giving them a discount, even if it is only £2.50.

That's unbelievable prices! Works out more than one of my matches would normally cost - and I'm a season ticket holder. Shocking, I can't afford that. I'm a young lad who has just lost his job! Anyhow,

COYB!

Markeyboy;

It'll be £5 for you if you are not a season ticket holder
or
£3 if you are a season ticket holder or you go with someone who is a season ticket holder

My season ticket works out at less than £17 a match. Though assuming Northampton are due a decent chunk of gate receipts I don't begrudge paying £17.50.

I am personally not a season ticket holder. Although i feel it would be beneficial to both the club and to fans to give season ticket holders half price carling cup tickets, especially for this match, perhaps different if we were at home to a premier league side. This would obviously also get the attendance up for the cup game.

However regardless of what goes on off the pitch lets hope we can get a win and see who we get in the next round! There is obviously a few big names still in the draw, but there is also a few teams who we are capable of beating left in the draw, so if we beat Northampton, who knows!

Price does seem a bit excessive tbh but I'm sure you won't be complaining if you see a 4 nil romping!!

Phil when do the tickets go on sale to season ticket holders?

Well, as a season ticket holder - who was expecting to have to pay full price AND have the honour of being booted out of my regular seat to accommodate extra away fans at our end of the Cobbold- I'm grateful for the reduction. I will buy a bag of chips on my way home. I guess 12,000 maximum.

Cor, as a season ticket holder I dont even manage the pleasure of a "free pint" to turn up, forget it.

I reckon it's all economics. Let's say if there was no discount on ticket prices the club could expect a crowd of 10,000.

Let's say the discount incentive encourages an increase in attendance of 20%, to 12,000 and everyone attending pays the same price of $17,50. The club would make $210k in gate receipts.

If the club dropped the prices to $10 a game, the club would need an attendance of 21,000 to make the same amount.

I know it's a simplified equation and doesn't take into account concessions and kids but I think the point is they will have thought hard about how to price the tickets and ultimately it will come down to what pricing makes the most revenue for the club.

Ps does anyone know if the away fans are getting a discount? or even what the average ticket for an away fan costs?
