Keane: We Need Two or Three More Players
Keane: We Need Two or Three More Players
Monday, 20th Sep 2010 09:04

Boss Roy Keane says that ideally he’d still like to add two or three more players to his squad. The Blues manager is hopeful of signing a loanee in the next few days, the deal having been put on hold last week.

Keane said: “We’re well short, two or three players short, we saw that the other night [against QPR]. Whether they’re experienced or young, beggars can’t be choosers, I’m not too fussy at the moment. We just need two or three players in to steady the ship.

“Tom Eastman’s a centre-half and I’m playing him at right-back. We need two or three players. A blind man could see that.”

Eastman impressed his manager with his performance against Cardiff on Saturday: “Tom did well. I always give people a chance. He had a chance at the end of last season against Sheffield United when he was unfortunate to be sent off.

“We put him in today because he’s been doing well and he’s got a nice way about him. Like a lot of the team he had a sticky first 10 minutes when Cardiff were putting us under the cosh, but good players get through that.”

Keane says the Clacton-born 18-year-old will be pleased to have provided the cross for Jason Scotland's goal: “He had a hand in the second goal and his body language was good.

"It’s not his ideal position, he’s a centre-half but I see other clubs and other managers playing international players at right-back and we thought we’d give him a chance and he did reasonably well.

“I think Carlos gave him a hand with his experience and his workrate. He’ll be pleased, particularly with the hand in the second goal.”

Keane was happy with the rest of his defence and similarly pleased with his strikers, particularly Connor Wickham: “Top people have presence and he gives us something. He’s different to the other strikers we have. Jason’s hold-up play is different and he likes to drop in the hole. Tamás I thought did well in his 10 minutes.

“Connor’s got a bit of everything. We’re pleased with him. In an ideal world we’d like to be holding him back but because we lost strikers and because I didn’t get one or two of the other strikers I was after, we were forced to play him.”

Keane expects Cardiff to bounce back after Saturday's defeat and says they will certainly be amongst the contenders come May: “If you finish ahead of Cardiff you’ve got a good chance of getting out of this league. Cardiff will be there or thereabouts, that’s guaranteed.”

The Gaffer is right, we do need 2 or 3 more players but well done to those now fighting for the shirt. McAuley, bloody awesome, great save from under the bar in the first few minutes. On his present performances we will go along way for someone to pip him for player of the season.

Everyone seems to know the score. They've heard it all before...

A right back is a must! A striker would be nice but not essential - creative midfielder too. so is this player Colback or not?

Maybe a misunderstanding. Bruce said he'd call back and Keane thought he was offering Colback.

What has been said to Roy? It's like chalk and cheese from last year, instead of buying anything that moved he's giving our youngsters a chance and looks what's happening. We do need a few players but what we've got at the moment aint half bad. I think conner would start in any championship side and that includes a full strength Cardiff. That's a great position to be in. I second the praise for mac, best thing that ever happened to him was loosing the armband. Excellent boys and well done keane.

Sitting here relaxing & enjoying TWTD comments from home - rather than sneaking a peek at work. My dog was ill in the garden this morning. I held my breath and took a snap. Sent it in and now I've got the rest of the week off. Walters, you're a genius!

Eastman got in the The Sun star team - he did extremely well considering he was out of position! Still think Peters can do a job there. For me, the important position to fill is a Creative Centre Midfielder.

we need Creative Center Midfielder who can deliver from our set pieces. The defence is pretty much sorted perhaps a right back. I think our strikers will find form with better service. We need 1-2 more to keep up with the front runners.

Deffo a right back. As for the other areas yes some additional cover would be great but assuming we get a loanee from the premership who expects to get regular football who would we drop?

Yes, we do need 2 or 3 players. Shame Keane didn't realise this during the close season when the transfer window was open. And thanks to his ineptitude, we now have to drag the market for loaners that nobody else wants. Other teams made plenty of signings but our mentally unbalanced manager seemed incapable. Maybe he should sign himself - on the dole.

zippy you are an inept troll, 1/10

So, Souperjim, I am wrong then? If you took off your rose tinted Keano glasses you will realise that I am correct. Keane has had since May to get in the players he wants. Other teams did it. Here we are in the second half of September and suddenly our nitwit manager decides he needs 2 or 3 players??? Bit late isn't it? But because I am not joining the Keane "love in" with the rest of you, I am a troll eh? Idiot.

I don't know if you ever pay attention Zippy but all summer keane was saying he had players interested but the CEO and owner couldnt sort out the finances! In one case he had the player in his office ready to sign! So dont you think he realised in the summer but was withheld by the senior management??!?!?
Do a favour and moan at them for a change and let the guy who has got us to 2nd in the table continue his good work eh!

Whenever I am having a bad day I can always rely on some of the comments on this site to cheer me up. It has worked again today, rubbish morning and then I look on here to find Zippy talking a load of Bungle's Fingers again and realise my lot could be much worse.

@ Big Foot - A good point well put. Of course Zippy would not remember any of that as they do not get electricity in Norfolk during the summer months and anyway he was busy 'entertaining' his [too] close relatives to notice.

I for one am glad i had nothing negative to say about Keano last year, yes the results weren't good enough, but the behind the scenes job he has done is now starting to pay dividends. Yes it's early days better chance to build on a good run if it comes at the start of the season rather than after new year.

Zippy - this isn't Football Manager 1998/1999 where you can sign someone in a matter of days and any player you want. It takes time and lots of it! Plus, Keane was aiming for some big talents obviously and maybe there weren't too keen on Ipswich (afterall we did finish in 15th!). Keane has not bought big so far this year, we are second in the league and will be furthe rin the Carling cup after we defeat Millwall tomorrow night! Just perk up and support the town - the good days are coming back - COYB!!
