Keane: Good Result and Decent Performance
Keane: Good Result and Decent Performance
Saturday, 21st Aug 2010 17:53

Boss Roy Keane was pleased with the performance and the result as his fifth-placed Blues beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park. The Town manager felt Andros Townsend’s second half red card for a high boot was harsh.

Recalling last season’s corresponding fixture in which Jon Stead was harshly sent off, Keane said: “A good result, a decent performance. The big talking point, a bit like here last year, was the sending off and the first goal.

“I thought Andros was very unlucky to be sent off," the Town boss continued. "He’s not that type of player, sometimes the referee is looking to even things up. We made it hard for ourselves, but I thought we deserved it and we looked dangerous. It was a tough game.”

Keane feels his side weren’t at their best: “We could have played better today, we should have killed the game. We got involved in arguments which lifted their players and their crowd. When the game was 2-0 we should have tried to kill it off, but that will come with experience for the younger boys.”

The Blues boss says it was a risk to play Grant Leadbitter after the midfielder received a blow to the ankle in last week’s game against Burnley: “We took a gamble on it and if there’s any reaction on it tomorrow he’ll have to miss Tuesday’s game at Crewe, but it was an important game for us and he’s a big player for us, which we saw today with his goal and his overall performance.”

Keane says there is likely to be news on Jon Stead’s future before Monday with the club having accepted a bid from Bristol City, who are also on the verge of signing Bournemouth's Brett Pitman. Stead has been in talks with the Robins and other clubs this week, having previously turned down moves to Ashton Gate, Blackpool and Cardiff.

The Blues boss says Town are unlikely to appeal against Andros Townsend’s red card in the wake of the appeal against Stead's dismissal last season when an extra game was added to his suspension, but no final decision has yet been made.

Former Town manager George Burley thought his Palace team were the better side but had no complaint regarding Claude Davis’s red card: “The game hinged on one incident, but we’ve got no one to blame but ourselves.

"Overall, I thought we were the better team, I thought we passed it better. Ipswich with one up and made it difficult for us, but we were patient, passed it very well, showed some good passing movement through midfield and wide.

“Some of the younger players were exceptional, so overall I was pleased with the performance, but if you lose that discipline, as far as the sending off and the penalty are concerned, against a very good team like Ipswich, you’re going to struggle, and that was the case. There are no excuses, it was a red card and a penalty.”

Burley also had some sympathy with Andros Townsend: “For me it looked a bit harsh but I’m sure someone else would have got a better view. It was a challenge on the goalkeeper, but I thought it was a bit harsh.”

If anyone was in doubt about selling Garvan i hope today showed exactly why he's not wearing a blue shirt, no creativity what so ever. Yes he got on the ball a lot but so what if you're going to knock meaningless square balls a ll game. Hyam did that all game as well as getting stuck in and nhe's only had three senior games. Goodbye and good ridance Garvan - not good enough anymore.

Something that is concerning me though - Keane/Clegg - sort it out. Give Keane the money and the players for the love of God. We're finally making progress...

Great result. Made my weekend. Things are falling into place and if we can get some momentum going, we could have a good crack at the play offs.

Well done lads you should be pleased and a big pat on the back to the team.

On a side note, who gives a fck about newspaper headlines? Let them write what they want. Thy could write that the team are rubbish and they run over baby rabbits for fun. Aslong as we are winning and playing well I really don't care ITS NOT TRUE SO WHY CARE. Stick and stones and all that jazz.

Keep the run going lads and the headlines will take care of themselves.

Great Result. I'd prefer Steady to stay, he shows real desire if a little misplaced at times. Keano's trust in the young lads is refreshing and deserved.

Cleggy, how the season goes from here is up to you... good luck

Really chuffed with the start to this season. Great win yesterday when we would have all taken a point. We all expected Wickham to be the saviour of this season, but the high points so far are grit, determination, a formation that works and a midfield triangle which rocks a fat one.

When Connor returns and the new strikers, whoever they may be finally arrive. We are in with a very decent shout for promotion.

COYB!

On a side note, quality Keane article here: http://www.suite101.com/content/roy-keane-haaland-roy-keane-tackle-that-ended-a-

I'd forgotton some of his awesome quotes!!!

There's no "apparenly" about it, Argent's printing plant is in Thorpe about a mile from Carrot Ruud. Argent used be known as Eastern Counties Newspapers and they have owned the EADT / ES / GU for donkey's years. It is only a matter of time before they close the Ipswich completely, but they need to see all the flats sold on the waterfront before redeveloping their site.

The reason why the so called local rag keeps putting a negative take on everything is probably because its no longer printed in Ipswich. Guess where it is printed ? Yep canary land apparantly ! Answer the question !

Local rag not only printed in Norwich, but owned by a 'media group' based in Norwich. Along with both local TV channels this means that ITFC are never going to get much credit, it's been the same way for years. Two away games, six points and all with lots of injuries, a small squad and a bunch of kids-what more can we do? A strong start to the season and now time for ME to back his manager and get the new players in that we need to consolidate this position.

Brilliant three results, i wouldnt be that surprised if Burnley Middlesborough and Crystal palace are the three teams going up this year (alright maybe not palace but they're still no pushovers). We seem to be grinding out results with our injury hit squad against top quality teams, i just hope that we dont get complacent against the weaker teams of the division and drop points. We just need to take one game at a time. If we can cement our position in the top 6 of the league before christmas, we'll be able to bring in a few players in january and kick on for promotion! but as i said, one game at a time lads.
