Wigan Accept Town Bid for Scotland
Wednesday, 11th Aug 2010 16:30

Wigan Athletic are reported to have accepted a Town bid for striker Jason Scotland. News of the Blues’ interest in the Trinidad and Tobago international first broke on TWTD at the end of last week.

Town are understood to have offered £750,000 for the ex-Swansea frontman, who is an international team-mate of midfielder Carlos Edwards and former loanee Stern John. The player is now believed to be in discussions regarding personal terms.

On Monday Latics boss Roberto Martinez confirmed the Blues’ interest in the 31-year-old frontman.

Much rather have Scotland here than Chopra, especially at the 4m fee thats been bandied about. As others have said, i would like to keep Stead. There are flaws in his play but he has a knack of scoring goals and ultimately thats how a striker is judged. Dont think we will see Pablo roll out in a Town shirt again.

Great news if true! (confirmed by Wigan according to TeamTalk). Okay, so he is 31 but if we get him for £750K that is about half the price of Carlos Edwards to put it into context. Ignoring his disappointing time at Wigan, Scotland scored 45 in 90 at Swansea and 33 in 66 at St Johnstone. Let's hope the deal gets done.

I would save the cash for now. Give Stead an extended run in the team, he played well when he came on against boro. Stead was also knocking the goals in last season until his 3 match suspension , then Keane did not select him after that ???

and in perspective if we are looking to build a premiership team why pay 3 million plus for Chorpa who clearly didnt make the level at Premiership, we can get ourselves a premiership striker if and when we get there :-)

I'm all for Jason Scotland signing, his pace strength will come in extremely useful. I would expect him to score late teens if given enough games. Keane is clearly very confident that he can get both Scotland and McCormack to recreate their form of 15-18 months ago when they finished joint second in the top goal scorers chart with 21. McCormack is undoubtedly the cleverer of the two though and is adept at playing wide and being involved with the link up play. An interesting article on him: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2008/nov/04/cardiffcity-championship

Solid player with good Championship record, for 750k he's a steal. I think one needs to go if we take on perm deal.

Will watch this over the next 24 hours!

So if Scotland is 750k I think that is what we paid for Lisbie, let us hope there is a difference between the two, Iam sure there will be !!!

Bluelady - yes, if a player is discussing terms it means the clubs have (generally) agreed on a fee. It certainly means the selling club have allowed the player to discuss terms with another club. Could be good news!

750k is so cheap his stats are really good as well...
In one season in the Championship - Scotland - 51 apps - 24 goals - 9 assists
Thats a goals to game ratio of 47.1%

jas0999 thanks thought that was the case. It had been said he was hear earlier in week, so maybe if he has been back again it was for a medical this time??! cant see him being on too bigger wage, think Scotland is likely to be more guilty of that. Well lets watch this space!

I was going to save my 100th comment for a new signing but I can't hold it in.

Hope this happens. Would be great, with or without McCormack.
750k. That is a brilliant price if its ture. And with the 750k spent on Fulop that would be 1.5m on two very good players that have proved themselves. Unlike Lee Martins to name one. Keane and the others have got some good bargins and they seem to be worth the wait. Glad to see we are not throwing the cash around like last year and even tho we haven't spent much the signings they have been better (well if Scotland comes)

And did I hear Cardiff only want 250k for McCormack? That would be another steal.

Bring on Saturday. Hopefully it will be 3 points. Although Burnley are a top side and their players are 'tight' as most of them played with each other last year.

Just a quick note to WadzillaBhoy 49.1% isn't a ratio, it's a percentage, but I get where you're coming from.

This will be a great signing for us, I must admit I thought he was taller than 5'8 though! The next David Johnson woop woop!!

agreeing with a few of these comments...some people are being so pessimistic! Scotland is a top quality player, alright stead has started the season well, but hes had his chance, and although he does chip in with a few goals, he isnt consistant enough. McCormack along with him would make a formiddable front three, and maybe that would open the door for walters to go. To me the problem has always been the same, we cant finish our chances, but keane is looking at the type of players that will.

I think Scotland would be a fantastic signing!!
As much as a rate chopra, 3 million+ plus for him is way way to high!
Scotland, Wickham, McCormack, Priskin. Im happy with that!
Couple of Loan players, Maybe another Midfielder or defender and its happy days!

Scotland and Stead are two different kinda strikers and i dont think Scotland is a replacement for Stead, Scotland is pacey and powerful but i dont know what his hold up play is like so i tend to think in a 4-4-2 he will be out an out goal hanger but with 4-3-3 he will go wider with movement to come into box. With 4-3-3 i think your central Striker must be physically strong and be able to hold the ball for team to move (wide strikers can have the pace and power) but more central striker must also have a good heading ability (maybe why keane is sticken with Priskin). i honestly dont know too much about McCormack so i assume if stead being used as a makewieght then McCormack is a big physical striker. But i see what Keane is doing and i am impressed (it has taken a while), to suceed in the Championship you do need craft and skill but more importantly you need power pace and not ninnies but players who can dish it out a little not thugs but a strong team with a good blend of youth (energy) and i think it looks good for this year. once the wins start and the momentum gets going Keane will be the best manager we could have now and most players will respond , i have already read that players WANT to come to Ipswich but the delays are many!
As for the Chopra deal if we paid 3 or 4 millions then i think this would be a mistake 750k for Scotland, if he fails then not good but not disastrous. Keane bought some players last year and he is sticken with Priskin and Martin could come good eventually, healy wasnt a bank buster so no comment.
The subject i look foward to next year is, when we are in the premiership will Keane be able to cut it. Dealing with bigger paid ninnies than in the Championship and footballers who think they are chocolate and are bigger than football clubs BUT for now i leave you with this - Ipswich are gaining in stature very quickly, a blend of very good youth players and seasoned pros who are not ripping the club off. We have a man in Clegg who wont allow bad business to be done (frustrating as it is but financially healthy) and a manager who wont have the p*ss taken out of him but will give credit when and where it is due, i look at Sheff Wed and thank the stars that we have the people running this club that are hear now, it has taken time but if you are an Ipswich fan sit back (or go to Portman Road) and enjoy this time because i think it is looking good all round for our club.
