Wickham Confirms Injury and Norris Also Sidelined
Wickham Confirms Injury and Norris Also Sidelined
Tuesday, 27th Jul 2010 14:08

Striker Connor Wickham has confirmed that he will be out of action for six weeks with an ankle injury. Midfielder David Norris is also currently sidelined with a back problem, which means he will miss the midweek friendlies at Leiston and Bury Town.

Wickham told the club site: "I took a shot at goal and felt my ankle give way. It's very frustrating and it looks like I will be out for six weeks."

Manager Roy Keane says Norris has a back problem: "Chuck is a concern for us as well. He's got a stiff back and you have to be careful with that type of problem.

”He won't play over the next few days and will be touch and go for the West Ham game at the weekend."

Town sides are at Leiston this evening and Bury Town on Wednesday (both 7.45pm).

The first comment on here is completely pointless. If you don't liek Roy, and can't find anything other than say - such as actually comment on the article, then go and support another team. Roy is the manager end of.

re the injuries, this is very frustrating - equally as frustrating as those who try to blame Roy for it!

This season is going to be a diaster everything that can possibly go wrong is going wrong! Lost our best striker best defender cant sell any of our players or give them away in other words where is the buisness sense gone with this club? Garven is only 22 years old and is a talent a footballer not a thug if Burley thinks he good enough for palace how is he not good enough for us? And we aint even better than palace bet anyone now they finish above us this season Burley will get them playing attractive attacking football and what do we get hoof up to walters its crap. We have stead who every other championship club wouldnt mind having and we give him away! He is better than anything else you can get for under a million. By actually circulating a list of our players to every club telling them we dont want them of course we are going to get derisory bids for them this club is becoming a joke and this is coming from a season ticket holder not a fairwether fan!

SMS - Bud like the theory behind CW. Not sure i would agree that we would not struggle in more games, however a new striker amongst 2 or 3 more new additions i would probably fully agree with you.

Robdaful; I remember what happened when Norris got injured last season, we didn't win for 13 games.

The Wickham transfer deadline idea is an interesting one! It takes the interest of other clubs away for a bit regarding his medical and fitness.

Carrying a knock in to start of season also lessens the expectations and pressure on Conor to perform from the first whistle. Dont forget he is a young lad and hasnt played a full senior season yet. He will have high expectaions on him self after the summer and will want to prove his valuation. If he had an indiffenent start to the season it could really knock his confidence. I personaly think we have built him up too much and this 6 week recovery could be a tactical stroke from the management team.

Thanks Skip73, thats what I was looking for. Hopefully bedsitfc is right and Chopra comes in quickly and while stead is leaving for Bristol City how about Nicky Maynard?

Unless we bring in goal scorers, we will not score goals, will not win games and will indeed be in for a relegation scrap. We shouldn't be arrogant about that as we were in the bottom three in January and only D.Murphy's goals helped us out of it. He has gone now, as has the other loanees and several other players. So, the need for signings is pressing and urgent else a scrap for Championship survival is on the cards. I'll keep checking TWTD for news of signings!

SMS, are you sure Boro are the only ones we will struggle against, I beg to differ and think you should look back to last season when everyone expected us to win the league and Priskin to be top scorer, a week later we couldnt beat the Mighty Foxes which was according to most a banker.

BBtown, Chuck was a nickname he picked up at Plymouth.

robdaful - we cannot get a permanent striker let alone get a loan striker.

Chambers M - I thought you were now a Palace Fan :)

Wickham is out for six weeks because he will be sold by then.

Ipswich24 - Can't disagree

Up to now I've been sitting on the Keano in/out fence but put like that I'm really struggling to see where we're going. The clock is ticking and one way or another the next week will seal our fate for the first half of the season.
Garvan & Stead - crazy business imho
Bruce, Fullop - ok
Lisbie - Bye
Kenndey - experienced but think will get found out for pace. Maybe it's about what he can do for the team or to support Keane?
Chopra - must be on a good whack, would have thought 20k ish. If so how practical is that?

Who'd want to be a football manager.

Good luck Connor. Hope for everyone's sake your recovery goes as well - COYB.

Can someone please explain why we should be optimistic about the new season, and in particular about our "manager". Normally, I would call myself an optimist, but can honestly say for the first time ever, this coming season actually fills me with dread. Hope I'm wrong, but can't find a positive spin for the life of me! And it just keeps getting worse ...
