Rosenior on Trial at Bristol City
Rosenior on Trial at Bristol City
Friday, 23rd Jul 2010 14:37

Former Town loanee Liam Rosenior is on trial at his former club Bristol City. The right-back was released by Reading at the end of the season and wasn’t offered a permanent deal by the Blues at the end of his year at Portman Road.

City boss Steve Coppell says Rosenior is a player he has worked with before: "It's a trial as such although obviously I know about Liam from Reading. It's actually a two-way trial; we're looking at him as an out-of-contract player and he's looking for a club.

"I know Liam believes there are some Premier League clubs looking at him and he needs to be playing games for fitness. We're looking for players, so it's a mutually-beneficial arrangement."

Rosenior came through the youth system at Bristol City before joining Fulham in 2003.

should of offered a deal to him, i dont see the point in getting rid of two decnt right backs in him and wrighty...now we have to look for one/two new ones....i dont understand the logic at all

There isnt alot of logic but wright was ok and rosenior was below average. He really is a legend in his own mind. Premier league , your having a giraffe !

Maybe Ollie will chat to him but he knows a good player when he sees one , so maybe not.

below average? i think you're having a giraffe sir. And with keanes inability to get in good replacements what was the point is getting shot of them?

I thought Liam did well for us. I also have to admit that I am worried about right-back. Is Peters good enough in that position? Judging from the PSV game - no.

I can understand that Rosenior and D. Wright were likely to be on big money and it's unrealistic to keep both. But if we don't sign another right back, surely keeping either or would have been the way to go?

He was probably on very high wages, which is the problem with a lot of our average-to-poor championship players, eg Quinn, and the wrights. We should have been able to find a better replacement on lower wages, but in hasn't turned out like that, has it!

if only he was as good as he thinks he is

Rosenoir and Wright are both better options than Peters . And surely if they were both out of contract they were on no money rather than "big money"and could have been offered any deal the club wanted and the decision would have been theirs, but we chose to release them both offering no contract .
Hopefully Keane has something planned as the season is looming ,maybe Finnian ?

The problem with our two previous RBs was Wright - poor going forward and Rosienior - poor at defending. They are both good championship RBs but I thought we wanted a Premier League standard team?

I agree Wadzillabhoy... In particular Roseinior who looked OK when he first joined, but his performances dropped as the rest of the defence got better. Not worth the massive wages he was reported to be on.

Rosenior looked good early on, although results were not good and we fared much better when D.Wright played instead. I expect Rosenior earned more than Wright, as Reading came down from the Premier League and wanted to offload his wages. I expect we could have afforded to keep Wright, after all Palace agreed a contract with him.

I am not confident with Peters at right-back, especially if he plays at the same time as youngsters O'Connor and Smith. A new right-back is needed I think, then Peters can provide cover for this and several other positions.

Roy dropped and then dumped LR after his driving misdemeanours - he was in court earlier this year. Clearly our manager expects players to be role models off the pitch too and is none to keen on those who think they are above the law. Good for him.
