Pim on Trial in Germany
Pim on Trial in Germany
Saturday, 10th Jul 2010 12:29

Released defender Pim Balkestein is on trial with German second division side Fortuna Düsseldorf. The 23-year-old left Portman Road at the end of the season and is being chased by former loan side Brentford and a number of unnamed Dutch sides.

Earlier in the week, Brentford boss Andy Scott said he was continuing his pursuit of the central defender: “We are still looking at Pim, who has a few options both here and abroad and we should get an answer in the next few weeks.”

Very difficult being a fan of an 'unnamed Dutch side'. What do you shout .. "come on you ????????"

Pim on trial in Germany??? For posing as a footballer probably. Needs to bugger off back to Holland and put his finger in a dyke. That is about his level.

Shame Pim didn't work out. He was worth a punt, and I wish we would take a gamble on a few more promising young players from Holland, League One and elsewhere.

Mark: I agree, shame Pim didn't work out... watching him play he looked a decent player 95% of the time. Decent defender, good in the air, good on the ball for a Centre Half, but it was just that 5%... made silly mistakes and cost the team dear when he did. Reminds me a bit of Bramble in that way, looked really good most of time, then ruined it when he made the most god awful mistakes... Ah well, as you say, a shame.

SiBo-I think the difference is with Bramble it tended to be a lack of concentration, wheras with Pim it is a lack of ability which costs him. I wish him luck wherever he ends up, though.

... for stealing a German sounding surname. It's great to see the old Andy Scott quotes again about Pim - I've missed them. I hope it works out for him. And we've replaced him with... erm......

tom the blue... I think you are right... With Bramble it was concentration.

Slowerball: we haven't replaced him... have you not read that we want to reduce the size of the squad? If that's the case, why then replace people you get rid of? We currently have a number of Centre Backs at the club... too many to be honest, so do not need to replace Pim.
