Trotter to Join Millwall
Trotter to Join Millwall
Wednesday, 2nd Jun 2010 14:33

Midfielder Liam Trotter has agreed to join newly-promoted Millwall on a two-year deal. The 21-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of June, spent the second half of the season on loan at the Den, having previously been with the south London club on a similar basis in 2006.

Ipswich-born Trotter, who joined the Blues’ academy from Bury Town’s youth set-up, said: "I'm very excited and extremely happy to be a Millwall. It's great to be playing regularly and winning games, and I'm confident that we can continue to be successful in the Championship.

”We have a very well organised and disciplined squad here. I'm sure we will improve and I believe we are capable of doing more than just hold our own at the higher level."

Town had offered the central midfielder a one-year contract and will be entitled to compensation from the Lions.

Trotter, who was in Town’s 2005 FA Youth Cup-winning side, made 18 starts and eight sub appearances for the Blues, scoring two goals.

It was always going to happen if they went up. Good business by Ipswich in offering him a contract- knowing that we'll get some sort of compensation for him....

All the best to Trotter!
Still think if he had a run of games in towns first team he would of became a great player for the club!
Think his made the right decision though in joining Millwall as will get regular first team football!
Look forward to seeing him back at portman road next season!

Thank god.
Now let's get rid of some of the other dross, (Lisbie, Bruce, Priskin & Healy) who have been out on loan, flog others like Garvan, Martin, Counago and get some cash in for some reasonable alternatives.

I wish you well Liam.
Things could have been different if Mark Halsey had not diabollically shown you the red card in the FA Cup match v Portsmouth (Jan 2008) which resuted in a three game suspension...you were having a great game. Here is an extract from the Telegraph:
Then Liam Trotter, Ipswich's bustling young midfielder, lunged at Pedro Mendes, the Portsmouth playmaker. It was late but not vicious, one-footed, not two, but after prompting by his assistant, referee Mark Halsey decided Trotter had to go. Mendes made a meal of the tackle, then ran around as sprightly as a spring chicken.
I recall that Joe Jordan was all over the fourth official and Halsey was too easily swayed.
My guess is that you will continue to do well with Milwall and I wish you good luck.

Average player at best and often hid from ball. Whatever we get in compo we should be happy with.

By the way all that stuff about the red card ruining him is nonsence he had about 25 games with us after that and apart from Southend in a pre season friendly he was terrible.

A very much underrated player. The type of player that will usually be misunderstood and undervalued by the average fan who mistakes the essential simplicity of the role Liam played for that of 'water carrier'.

Decent at breaking up the opposition's play and making simple, short passes. More than capable of getting us playing decent football but sadly lacking in opportunity. It's a crying shame that Garvan and Trotter aside, we haven't had anyone willing to take the ball from the back four and play it through the midfield. Too much hit and hope under Magic and Keano.

Good luck Liam, I hope you become the decent Championship player that I think you will.

I don't think i ever saw him even jog in a town shirt, so ridiculously lazy.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if he doesn't go on to be a decent journeyman CCC player - bit like Alan Quin really. OK player, but not what we need just now. We have several midfielders better than him and he really wouldn't have got a look in here had he stayed and he knew it. A good move for everyone I reckon.
