Boyd Valuation Not Yet Met
Boyd Valuation Not Yet Met
Monday, 24th May 2010 11:38

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry says no one has yet matched his club's valuation of midfielder George Boyd. Fry has confirmed that Burnley have made an enquiry regarding Boyd, who is also interesting Town, Derby, Middlesbrough and his former loan club Nottingham Forest.

Fry says that his club has received one offer for the 24-year-old but that it came nowhere near to their valuation, which is believed to be in excess of £2 million: “Burnley did enquire about our asking price for George, but they have not come back. The only offer we have had so far we rejected out of hand.

“We were asked if we would take £1 million now and then another £1 million depending on appearances, goals and other add-ons, but that’s of no interest to us.

“It is looking more and more likely that we will have George next season and I’m sure that’s something all our fans will be pleased about.”

Scotland B international Boyd has a year left on his contract but is refusing to sign a new deal and Fry says he will remain at London Road if the right offer doesn't come in: “[New manager] Gary Johnson is of the opinion that we should keep George next season because his presence will greatly improve our chances of promotion and the chairman will not go against his manager’s wishes, especially a manager he has only just appointed.

“Obviously if we get a silly offer we would have to accept it and George would have the option of leaving, but although many clubs have expressed an interest in him, no one has come close to our own valuation.”

Despite Fry’s bullishness, Boyd seems certain to leave the Posh over the summer with the Blues seeing him as the man to fill the problem left midfield role. If Peterborough’s asking price is seen as too high or Boyd goes elsewhere, Tottenham’s Andros Townsend is seen as an alternative option.

I think Barry Fry knows George Boyd will never play for Posh again. All this talk is just a poor attempt at trying to start a bidding war lol!

It seems an awful lot of money. I remember when winger Hoolahan was a star of the season for Blackpool in 2007/8 and Norwich signed him for about £250K I think. We need to snap up some gems rather than paying through-the-nose.

Talking of those up the road, I read they have signed a player already and are negotiating for a second one. Three weeks have passed since our season ended and I hope we can start some transfer activity soon, especially as Keane wants five players, as otherwise the best bargains will be gone and we will end up scraping the barrel.

I know that banter about these 'might be/if' situations is futile and yet I just can't stop myself throwing my hat into the ring for Boyd.
I've seen him play a lot at Peterborough as I live nearby and he's their absolute star player (and before anyone slags them off too heavily just remember what they did to us not-too-long-ago...)
I say Go for him Roy - he offers a great deal that we don't currently have: he can cross, distribute and SCORE FROM MIDFIELD!!! as well as making runs and taking players on and giving us options...
There! I've got it off my chest...

As I feared we will once again be dragging our heels when it comes to signing players. Other Clubs seem to be managing it with no problem but ITFC have not been able to do it for years now and when we do sign players at the last minute we pay way over the odds. £2m for Boyd is a joke but then so is Barry Fry so I'm not suprised at his comments. Blackpool have shown us all what can be done on a shoestring and good luck to them I say.

StowTB, I would much rather we bought the RIGHT players than the FIRST players. I like the look of Boyd and I'm sure Peterboro would accept 1.5m, if offered. Fry is just trying to stoke up the price.

Can't help feeling that we might be able to get someone as good for less though. The boy from Spurs might be a good option. if he is anywhere near as good as Danny Rose, he'll be definitely worth a try. And Colback has already shown that a Prem reserve can really shine in our division.

Could be a good signing, but would never pay £2 million for him. Any more than £1.25 million and we have well and truly been had! Wasnt that impressed with him when we played posh at our place but have recently seen him on tv and looks like he could do well-looks like Walters did 2/3 seasons ago at his best, not the quickest but can skip past people because of his size and strength. We could do worse but wouldnt waste to much time chasing Boyd, a striker and a right back at the priorities now in my opinion. Who do we think for right back out of interest???

Last season we bought late and badly. The team were not ready for the start of the season, were not fit enough and results spoke for themselves. We, it is reported, off back to The Republic of Ireland becasue the teams there are in the middle of their season and are therefore match fit.

If the same pattern of buying and pre seasons occurrs this year what hope have we off NOT repeating last years start? As the team was being rebuilt last year did the scouting netwrok not also getting a lick of paint?

As a previous poster has pointed out Naarich bought cheaply and bought well, so why doesn't Ipswich?

Alex Bruce!!!
Can't be that bader player if he played for a Play-off team although i don't think Kean likes him,
i don't like most of the people i work with but at the end of the day you get on with them because it's your job. You don't have to go out with them afterwards do you and socialise.
Alternatively, what about Peters? Tommy Smith? All players that Ipswich currently have on there books so i wouldn't be to worried if it wasn't at the top of keans wish list,
i personally don't think we need to many players, just a couple of midfielders with natural width in there game and a proven striker to assist with Conner. that would do me just fine.

Doubt Bruce will play for Ipswich again if im honest, think Leciester are ready to come in with a bid as well. Peters is solid where ever he plays but never spectacular, till the Watford game Rosenior was imense and would have solved the position but as he has fallent out of favour with Keane he is gone! For me I think we could do worse than getting in someone like Nathaniel Clyne for Crystal Palace-in trouble but think bigger clubs may be after him. Matthew Mills at Reading is another I can think of off the top of my head.

Keanes decisions re players are seriously under the microscope. As one who worried when he first arrived that he has signed an awful lot of bad players amoungst an awful lot of spending at sunderland, keane has only confirmed these worries.....boyd may well be a decent player, but as keane turned decent players under magilton into bad ones and let our most consistent defender go(D wright), fr5nakly if keane rates him, I am tempted to assume he useless. Never has a manager had such a bad strike rate in term of signings....bloody hell, magilton will never be forgiven for lisbie after three years.... Give him nothing to spend marcus and make him work with the more than adequate players he has.

Forest had Boyd on loan for 500k plus £1.5m if they wanted him permanently.
Boyd has said he wants to leave and, he WON'T sign another contract so, (which runs out next summer) i can't see him going for anything like £2m despite what Mr Fry says.

how come all the other useless teams players are worth 2-3 mill but ours are only worth 600 thou did we buy a lot of duds along the way or does playing for town strip the value of players ?
