Manchester City Targeting Rodgers
Manchester City Targeting Rodgers
Monday, 24th May 2010 08:46

Town are facing competition from Manchester City for assistant manager target Brendan Rodgers, according to a report this morning. Roberto Mancini is said to want Rodgers to join his staff at Eastlands.

Rodgers is understood to have spoken to Town about the assistant’s role, manager Roy Keane revealing that he was looking for a deputy in late April.

Former Watford and Reading boss Rodgers is said to be set to speak to City this week regarding a role working alongside Bryan Kidd, Mancini’s assistant manager.

The Northern Irishman is reported to have spent time with Steve McClaren and his Dutch championship-winning FC Twente side towards the end of the season, prior to the former England manager joining German side Wolfsburg.

Mancini (and therefore his staff) will be sacked by Christmas. He's better off coming here.

That's one in the eye for the halfwit 'experts' on here claiming he's no good.

One day the Mirror will get a story right about him - they also think he's going to be the next boss at MK Dons. No mention of us having spoken to him, which would surely be a relevant point in an even semi-researched article about him... sorry, forgot it was the Mirror for a minute.
Do you sense a bit of scepticism here?

Then there's the vacancy at Colchester.

Is he the 'experienced older head with Premier League knowledge' that we are searching for?

Brendan Rodgers may well be a good coach, I don't know. What has happened to Tony Loughlan* and Ian McFarlane then, were they not doing a similar role? I thought Peter Taylor was coming here but decided against it so we appointed McFarlane.

* I couldn't remember his name and had to look it up. When doing so I came across a quote from Marcus Evans when Keane was appointed: ""He has extensive contacts in the game and is a proven winner who encourages his team to play the attractive football that Ipswich Town fans have come to expect...". We're still waiting for anything from the extensive contacts and as for the attractive football...

Mark you shouldn't say such things. The "Keane can do no wrong brigade" don't like it.

Good point though

Is this not an artical about the potental of getting Brendon Rogers as assistant manager?

All Kean has said about this is that he was after someone as the assistant,

I agree that Kean is far from setting the League alight with his style and penertrating football but how is it that at the smallest of things to do with him some people see the point to get at him again?

He's not my number 1 Choice of managers and i'm sure not alot of other peoples on here judging by all the comments on different stories but he is the manager of our club so lets support him and not just see another artical as another way of getting at him,
Let's just stick to the Heading which is about Man city interested in the same person we are and give Keano a break!!!

Keane and Rodgers are supposedly good friends so I think unless Rodgers gets offered a management role then we will be seeing him on the touchline alongside Keane next season. Good apointment in my eyes, great knowledge of the game and is definitely more suited to the assistant/coach role. Sign him up!

Blue Murder, Keane and his staff are more likely to be gone by xmas than Mancini....there season may be less than they'd wished for, but at least he's moved them forward.

Monkey, I don't think Mancini is a proper manager. I think he did well managing at a club he loved in a country he loves, but Manchester? I dont think he really cares.

IF Roy did not string things out and make it a soap opera, what would we have to talk about other than his failings?
