Keane Says No to Pundit Roles
Keane Says No to Pundit Roles
Wednesday, 19th May 2010 11:22

Town boss Roy Keane has turned down offers of TV punditry roles at the World Cup to concentrate on getting things right with the Blues. The Town manager revealed earlier in the month that he was weighing up whether to accept the roles.

Keane told the club site: “There were a couple of offers but I've decided not to take them up. I need to concentrate on getting things right at Ipswich.

"This is a very important summer for me. The most important I've had in my time in management - and that's because of the poor season we had last year.

"It's a vital period for me in terms of getting the club in shape. While we've obviously not got the intensity of matches to prepare for, it will be a busy time. There is a lot of hard work to be done and I want to get on with it.”

Keane says that despite not taking the media jobs he will be keeping a close eye on the tournament, looking for possible signings: "Like all managers I will be watching the World Cup and, while you'd expect the players from the likes of Italy, Brazil, Argentina and the other top teams to be out of our reach, you never know what the smaller nations might bring."

Nice on Keane! Tends to suggest another busy summer for the gaffer, lets hope we get deals wrapped up early and any last minute signings then can just be a bonus.

The fact he even considered taking the job is disapointing.
Stiil he got there in the end, his first correct decision as manager of ITFC

@ozzydog....WTF?!?!?!? He was offered a job for the summer of course he is going to 'think about it' any one would. Just how is that disappointing? As for it being his first correct decision for ITFC....all I can say is your an idiot..........

good decision from RK i think. only downside is that he won't have a first-hand view of any players that might interest him.

Utter rubbish ozzydog

How many Premiership manager do you see acting as pundits, especially in the summer tournaments. We want him to be out there looking at players anyway - why shouldn't he consider getting paid (again) for doing it ?

With fans like you - who needs the scummers down the road

Ozzydog,
Did you actually go and watch any matches last year???
Did you happen to see a young Player called Conner Wickham play? i think that was a pretty good decision by Roy to give him his chance don't you?
Also, anyone who says that he didn't make good decisions throughout the season is just stupid,
I'll name just a few shall i incase some of us are just blinkered on all the bad things happening,
Moving Delaney into the middle,
Seeing we needed a goal scorer and getting one in on loan, Murphy.
Giving CW his debut,
Buying a good Keeper,
Keeping us up after a shambollock season,
Roy is and will be the best Manager Ipswich have had since Sir Bobby,
He just needs a bit of time and Support like any great manager gets a club.

The right decision i guess given last season but a shame too. I think he'd be great as a pundit

He probably realised it would just be used as stick to beat him with by "fans" and the local press at every opportunity, despite the fact it could only benefit ITFC.

It continues to astonish me that so many "fans" are so eager to put a negative spin on every single story. We're all frustrated by where we finished in the table, but seriously, some of you are so emotionally immature it frightens me.

Exactly the right thing to do! While there maight be some positives of taking the job in terms of finding talents from small football countries, the most important task for Keane is to find the right players we need to get promoted. And I really think they are here not in South Africa so good decision Roy! Now good luck with your job during the summer!

comeonthegoodtimes. Agree totally. I can't get my head around why so much negativity. When keano gets us up all the moaners will start to winge that he may leave us for a "bigger club". In keano most of us ( with brain) trust!

The trouble with finding players at the world cup is that we're not the only ones watching so its inflated prices for players that have performed in a tournament and maybe not so much in their league. I remember a Turkish or Tunissian guy that looked great in the WC and was snapped up by a prem team but never really did anything here. It wasnt Hassan Katchloole or what ever name was it was his team mate!

So now you're staying put, get yourself down to Selhurst Park and get Ambrose and Lee back. It's a no brainer IMO.

Barhamblue- At last someone else who is positive and not down beat about our wonderful club..
Mickeyjb- i agree with what your saying about performing at a tournament, but don't forget this is on a world stage against the cream of the world, Hassan Katchlue is the player who played for Marrocco i believe and had a good tournament and got signed by Southampton as i recall and did struggle.
But he went straight into the Premier league which were not in 'YET' so any player/s who Roy did look at at the WC should or could be good enough at CCC level and do a job even from the minor countries and lets face it there are some little gems out there (Robert Koren).
Lets hope RK does watch it and unearth one or two stars for us next season,
Don't think the price is going to be to expensive as Keano isn't the type to let on who he is after.

Not only for Him but for all the loyal fans out there who believe in there club, i hope he finds a few players and shuts all the doubters and negitive 'Fans' up who keep slating him throughout last season.
Lets see what they'll all be saying when were sitting 3rd or 4th in the CCC next year with Roy at the helm.

Well said in the final paragraph comeon.. We need the positive fans on here, the majority of our fans Im sure.
The whiners seem to spend their lives on here, why dont they get down to carrot road and wallow in the 'success' of winning league one.
I will support my team AND my teams manager through thick and thin, Up AND Down.
Roll on Jun 17 (fixtures) and Aug 7....I can feel this is gonna be an exciting season ahead

well i gotta give you credit for that RK ! things need sorting at home, your input as a pundit [not just you] is of little importance.I think Andy Gray talks enough b'llocks to satisfy the needs .

dirtydingusmagee-

Do you actually like anything to do with football or are you just a very sad and bitter person who likes to slag anyone off who has achieved so much more than yourself?
God forbid Conner Wickham or any other player makes a mistake next year with you as a 'Supporter' they'll get torne apart,
Try and be a bit more Positive.
who would you like to be in charge realistically with a background like Keano that we for one could afford without them being the highest played person at the club and who isn't afraid to actually try things out and admitt there errors if they got it wrong which i believe Keano has done this season??? Admitt he was wrong that is.

To most of the above..Keane will be gone by xmas & we'll hopefully have someone with at least half a clue about football management in charge..that "positive" enough for you?

comeonthewhatever i was not having a go at Keane, its the way you chose to read it, im glad he has decided against the tv job.If you mean im having a go at Gray, thats right, he rattles on , like he knows absolutely all there is to know and has never missed a goal chance or put a stray pass in ,throughout his carreer,i'd rather watch a match without it .

if my comments and views upset you that much im thinking you must have a sadder life than me ! there is still room on the Orwell Bridge .

Comeonthegoodtimes i commend you on defending your manager but if you are going to do so actually have some good points - Magilton was first to get Wickham into squad not Roy , Keane signed Delaney as a left back and only put him in the centre because of injury to everyone else at the time when Delaney was not even in the squad (no master tactical swap),seeing we needed a goalscorer by shipping out our top scorer and replacing him with two loan players who scored the same amount between them in more games (amazing ),and as for keeping us up after a shambolic season the reason the season was shambolic in the first place was due to the crap players we continually played at the start Healy,Trotter,Bruce,Martin,Priskin,Quinn,Delaney , at left back ,Edwards and constantly changing the team afterwards. After spending the amount of money we did in this league on a team finishing just off the playoffs for two seasons ,staying up should not been seen as a positive but as a dismal failing but some people think you can polish a turd
