Sunderland Want £1m for Murphy
Sunderland Want £1m for Murphy
Tuesday, 27th Apr 2010 22:22

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is understood to want Town to pay a fee of £1 million for loan striker Daryl Murphy. The clubs are negotiating a deal for the Irishman but are yet to come to an agreement.

Bruce, who spoke with Blues manager Roy Keane last week, has previously said that Murphy isn’t in his plans at the Stadium of Light, while Town are keen to make his loan a permanent move. The 27-year-old is happy with the Blues and would like to stay at Portman Road.

Murphy is contracted to Sunderland for another two years and is on more than £20,000-a-week, around double the Blues’ highest wage. It is likely that much of the fee that Town would pay the Black Cats will be used by the Wearsiders to settle the remaining years of the Waterford-born man’s contract.

MACKEMYANK - although i do not agree with what's been said about your club, i do agree with whats said above dont assume all fans are the same, but some of the stuff you did say about our club in retaliation to what was said (no all your fault i get peeved with stuff said on here too) was a tad harsh, dont stoop to that level mate and dont let the so called "fans" get to you :)

ITFC1985 - you have a good point and it's well taken. Ipswich are my second team and apologies to anyone (except Benny the Clown) who I may have inadvertantly offended by my comments.

Peter Beardsley, what was his goals per game ratio? Being a good striker is not just about scoring goals, what if he scores 9 goals next season, but sets up 20 for Connor Wickham?

His wages would be the stumbling block.

Why £1m? If we were inconveniencing Sunderland by taking away their first choice strikers then a 7-figure sum is understandable, but a guy they clearly want to offload for a million? No thanks. He is a good player, but halve the asking price and I think we would have a deal. Or keep that £1m as part of the Chopra fund.
