Keane Delighted With Victory
Keane Delighted With Victory
Monday, 5th Apr 2010 21:53

Boss Roy Keane was delighted with Town’s 3-1 victory at Derby, hailing it the type of performance the Blues need to produce more often away from home, but was unhappy with the Rams’ late goal.

Keane said: "We made hard work of it as usual. We gave a shocking goal away but three goals away from home, we'll take that. I enjoyed the game, it was a good battle out there which I knew it would be.

"We are just focused on winning football matches and we've not done enough of that this year, but today was about rolling your sleeves up.

"These are the kind of performances we need. We are trying to change the mindset of what Ipswich is seen to be, particularly away from home where we are probably seen as a soft touch and we have got to change that.

"We need to start turning in performances like that on a regular basis if we are to progress.

"There was lots going on. Decisions to be made but going away from home and scoring three goals is something we have not done very often this season and it's very rewarding.

"Connor showed great maturity for his goal. It's been a good week for him, but I don't want to single out individuals because it was a good team performance."

After the game, referee Jonathan Moss confirmed that both Stephen Pearson and Derby boss Nigel Clough had been sent off for foul and abusive language. Clough admitted that he may have sworn at the official prior to being sent to the stand: "Quite possibly, yes.

"The referee asked me to repeat something. I did and I asked was he sending me off for that, and he wouldn't answer.

"He asked me to go, so I went and sat in the stand. He then asked me to move higher but the stand is the stand. It has to be something I said.

"I think it was for something [Stephen Pearson] said as well as he was walking away, but I don't think it was aimed at the referee.

"But we have missed a good opportunity to get another point or three on the board. Despite all the warnings before the game about not conceding early, we conceded after three minutes from a corner.

"That's the most disappointing thing, all the talking done in the last 48 hours, to stay unbeaten, that's the mentality we are still some way from instilling."

We were great today best performer from a wide selection was McCauley had to sit on my hands because I was sat in the Derby end .Section 10 were great too. Brilliant. Can't wait to see why this proves Roy Keane is a crap manager.

Knew we'd beat Derby; for some reason they're completely useless against us. Easy three points.

'ello fans. I can't stand Roy Keane and nothing can convince me that he will ever be a good manager either for us or someone else. But at the same time, I am glad we are safe and back to back wins are always pleasing. Northernblues has it spot on. Why has it taken this long to have something to remotely shout about? What are we shouting and fawning about anyway? Are we all happy and giddy because it is APRIL and we are almost out of the bottom half of this league?? It's shocking and pathetic that these blind Keano fans are happy with this situation. I tell you what, Keane (if he stays) needs to do a lot better and if that is all we can agree on, it's a start. COYB - but Keane out !!!!

The start we had under Keane this season was awful, but recent performances have been better and indicate we'd be in contention if it were not for the early season games.
If the early season games were the "settling in" period and the assembly of the core of a new side then the signs are good - having been through this season the side should be together and confident.... BUT... a lot of our key players are loan signings... the closed season will be a critical time. Keane has indicated that the size of the squad will be reduced. The big question will be about Murphy.

jamesy - so I take it you are happy with our season then?? Well, you go and gaze at your Roy Keane posters and be happy with it then. Myself, I will wait until Keane (or somebody else) leads us to a season that Newcastle or West Brom are having this year. Even the play offs would be give me something to shout about. Unlike you, I have seen nothing worth cheering about and feel free tio enlighten me if that is not the case. This season has been pathetic and if we are going to settle for being half way in the championship, then our club has slipped further than I thought.

I know this season has been a disappointment but we was rock bottom after about 15 games .. and i believe we have developed since this period of time. Roy keane is trying to bring in some steel within the camp that will get us out of this league. No team gets promoted playing woderful attacking football, sometimes we have to dig in. Throught-out the last 6/7 years we havn't had that. That why we never go up. So i belive Keane has developed that in our squad, and in the summer he can bring in a few more players that will help our play. i.e A striker and a winger.
Alli say is give the man some time. He has been there done it with Sunderland. He knows what it takes.

Wickham showed what he's capable of and his promise for the future with that turn and strike, many more experienced strikers would have put it wide or planted it straight into the keepers hands. Good win, we can push on from here and get a top half of the table finish. Hopefully some good signings in the summer (Murphy and Chopra top of my wish list, Rosenior offered a contract and considering Keane doesn't seem to fancy Bruce or Balkestein a new central defender and a quality holding midfielder, you'd think given who Keane was as a player he'd really be targeting that area!!!) and we'll be up there. I don't think the teams relegated from the Prem this year will be half as good as Newcastle and West Brom!! We really are in with a shout next season.
COYB!!!

Jamesy - that is a very good articulate post and I really really hope you are right!!! We both want the same thing but our views on who can lead us back to the Premier League are different but if Keane pulls this off, I will hold my hand up and admit I was wrong...........

Hi guys and gals,

I'm struggling a little to keep up with results, Championship is pretty much unheard of in Sydney.

2 fantastic wins and by all accounts some half decent performances.

I am still wondering why people are still wanting to have a go at Keane. It's as if they are trying to be proved right and quite frankly it is childish beahviour and attitudes like this (I'm talking to you bennytheblue or is it budgiethegreen) that will only have a negative affect on the team and club.

Keanoblindfaith, keep your picture becasue you are a clown. It doesn't make sense to me why you dislike Keane so much. How many seasons did he say it would take to to get us up? and How many have we had? I'm no carol vorderman but I think he has one season to go.

Rome wasn't built in a day and to be hinest I can't see much competition coming down from the premiership next season and not a lot coming up from LEague 1, well except your team benny and Blind.

We can have a decent little run to the end of the season and then next season there is no excuses. Promotion or bye bye keane.

Dam good result. Joly well done to all concerned including Mr Keane. maybe as it's Easter and the resurrection happened yesterday I'm being cast in the role of doubting Thomas and if you idol worshipers are to believed Mr Keane is the savior!

But all that aside. I ecstatic at the two wins well done again

Seems to me that the majority of the anti-Keane brigade will never change their minds. I suspect that most of them didn't like him as a player and will never forgive the fact that he got off to such a poor start this season. I have my reservations about him (mainly about his lack of experience as a manager), but then people had reservations about Jim, about BFJ about Burley.....

6 points at Easter and Wickham signs on the line - and scores a good goal. Excellent.

Fantastic result!!!

Best possible news we have wickham next season, people keep talking about a 15+ goal scorer we need, well if his play keeps maturing at the rate it is then he will out score anyone including Murphy (if we can keep him!)

Everything Keane has cocked up on this season he has held his hands up to. I believe he should have another season. Yes, there is elements of making your own luck in football but no one can deny we have been desperately unlucky in a few results this year that if they had come off we would be sitting in the playoffs singing Keane's praises.

We have been hit with injury- Norris out for a long time at the start and of course Civelli whom could be our answer to some width to our play next season.

Keep the faith people, what our club needs is our support, not people just waiting for an excuse to jump on Keanes back- that just breeds anxiety.

COYB, derby games next season to get excited about!!! WE CAN AND WILL BE GREAT IPSWICH TILL I DIE!
