Reserves Lose to Watford
Reserves Lose to Watford
Wednesday, 17th Mar 2010 16:11

A first half strike from Will Buckley and an unfortunate Tom Eastman (pictured) own goal after the break saw Watford beat Town’s reserves 2-0 at Portman Road.

Buckley put the Hornets in front on 14 when Ed Upson, who is currently on loan at Barnet and was playing to keep himself match fit having been an unused sub at the weekend, lost possession, Pim Balkestein slipped and Henderson beat Richard Wright.

Sub Eastman, who replaced Troy Brown at half-time due to a foot knock, was unfortunate to add Watford’s second in the 53rd minute when Lewis Young's shot hit the post, cannoned off him and beat Richard Wright.

What was a young Town side by the end — Alan Quinn having made way at the break with a groin injury - had spells of possession but Ronan Murray was often isolated up front and the Blues, who were watched by boss Roy Keane, didn’t create too many chances.

Midfielder David Cawley was perhaps Town’s best performer in a midfield without the suspended Luke Hyam. Dutch defender Pim Balkestein looked a touch rusty having played so rarely of late.

Reserves: R Wright, Ainsley, Brown (Eastman 46), Balkestein, Dunbar, Cawley, Yao (Griffiths 55), Quinn (Clark 46), Upson, Lambe, Murray. Unused: McLoughlin, Brandon.

Thanks to Andy Pearl.

I think Watford should become the new Norwich. I really don't like them, even going back to the days of Graham Taylor.

I was there and would probably say Jack Ainsley was as good as David Cawley.
@Bournmouthblue, yes, much better, outplayed us in every position, deserved their 2-0 victory.

@Alrfomcol
Yao was ok, good promise but no finish to that, no good passes or shots, but decent in patches.
