Ten-Man U18s Gain Draw With Coventry
Ten-Man U18s Gain Draw With Coventry
Saturday, 13th Mar 2010 16:38

Town's U18s gained a credible 0-0 draw at home to Coventry City on Saturday morning, despite playing for most of the game with only ten men.

Right-back Callum Bennett was dismissed after just five minutes when he tripped Coventry striker Callum Wilson, who was clean through on goal. The resultant freekick came to nothing and midfielder Sam Brandon moved to right-back.

In a quiet first half, Wilson squandered the visitors' best chance when he placed his header wide of McLoughlin's post.

Striker Ronan Murray nearly put Town ahead just before the interval when he beat Coventry keeper Michael Quirke to the ball, but the Irishman's header dropped just wide.

In the second half, Murray supplied Billy Clark with Town's best chance of the game but the midfielder slotted wide from six yards.

Overall, Town probably deserved a point with a good, battling display. Rory McKeown was rarely troubled at centre-back before being withdrawn and Clark put in an impressive display in the middle of the park.

Meanwhile, Town's U16s gained their first victory of 2010 with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over their Coventry counterparts.

U18s: McLoughlin, Bennett, Whight, Hyam (c), McKeown (Eastman 55), Griffiths (Dunbar 78), Brandon, Cawley, Lavery, Murray (Carson 62) and Clark. Unused: Simmons.
