Tord Watches Wright and Stewart

Jermaine Wright and Marcus Stewart were Tord Grip's targets last night when he watched Town beat FC Flora 5-1. Both look more likely than ever to receive England call-ups in the near future.

So far Stewart has been overlooked by Sven-Goran Eriksson and second in command Grip, however this is not because he isn't rated by them, Grip: "Marcus Stewart was watched by us many times last season with a view to selection for England. Sven and I like him very very much. He scores many goals and is a very clever player in terms of his passing and movement. He is someone we have very much in mind with big games coming up."

Jermaine Wright was put forward as a possible England player by George Burley last season and it seems the nation's management are taking notice, Tord again: "We saw him at West Ham last season when Ipswich won so well and we were very impressed with his general all-round game. He is a player strong on the ball who passes very positively. We like Jermaine and we are looking to him also with a view to an England international career."

With Richard Wright gone Town have no regular member of the England squad at present. If either gets a cap they will become the first outfield Town players to do so since Terry Butcher in 1986.

It is emerging that should the Finidi George deal not go through Town boss George Burley has another player in mind. Reports suggest that Town may be awaiting a response to their offer and if that is negative then negotiations will open on another front.

Presumably that will start a plethora of names flying around with the likes of Darren Eadie and a number of Spaniards likely to be amongst them.
