Stead: I Should Have Scored More
Stead: I Should Have Scored More
Tuesday, 16th Feb 2010 08:48

On-loan striker Jon Stead says he would have liked to have scored more than six goals for the Blues this season. Stead yesterday joined Coventry until May with a view to a permanent deal in the summer.

The 26-year-old said: “Coventry City is a new challenge for me and I’m looking forward to hopefully getting some games, doing well and helping in any way I can for the final push of the season.

“Six goals this season is probably not as many as I would have liked but I think I’ve started probably double that [number of matches] anyway, so you always look at your ratio.

“I’ve been in and out of the Ipswich team this season which has been disappointing for me but I know coming here that to play it will not just be a case of turning up and walking into the side.

"I’m aware it is something that will have to be earned because the club already have some very good strikers.

“It’s a huge confidence boost for me that a club looking to go places looks to me to help them on their way.

"Everything at this club has the make up to go places and I’m glad that I am seen as part of that, even if it is for the short term.”

The last sentence - does that seem to suggest that he only sees it as a loan deal? Sounds very non committal to me...

All depends on the slant with which you read it.

In and out of our team since he was signed but still managed 20 goals on 18 months - makes you wonder how many he would've scored if he'd been played permanently?..still,the manager knows best.

Do you think that his comment about Coventry being a club looking to go places implies that he thinks Ipswich aren't also looking to go places?

Perhaps he thinks there may be other changes to the club at the end of the season ?

Stead is simply keeping his options open - don't blame him. A very honest and sensible assessment. Even Stead believes his goal scoring record isn't good enough. This will no doubt disappoint several on here who have been 'raving' about his goal scoring ability.

I totally agree with Stead himself - simply not good enough.

He was let go by Roy before and he has been let go again. He obviously doesn't fit into Roys plans. Good luck to him and if he comes back then happy days if not I wish him the best and the money can be spent on either signing Healy and Muphy permanently or the money can be put towards getting chopra.

Keane is a plank of a manager , end of . Stead is decent , and the sooner you get shot of Keane the better your club will be .

What is more apparent to me is the term that he is joining a club looking to go places. He could of stayed at Ipswich as we are going to Division 1 !!
Keane, has no idea unless he is give unlimited funds.
