Tommy Miller, the 22 year old signing from Hartlepool has put pen to paper on a four-year deal. The new man was paraded at a press conference this afternoon.

George Burley presented the new signing, who was acompanied by his father and a PFA representative. Burley described Miller as: "A young, exciting player, one of the finest midfield players in the Nationwide League. He has tremendous potential."

Burley pointed to Miller's "phenomenal goalscoring record" and said that the club were "very pleased to bring in another player from the lower leagues who will certainly strengthen the squad."

Miller goes straight into the squad for the trip to Finland and Estonia, although he won't join up with them until Wednesday as he has to return home to get his passport.

The midfielder was at Town as a 15-year-old, but was released with his lack of height cited amongst the reasons why. Since then Miller has certainly put on a spurt, George Burley: "When he left here he was 5'3", he's now 6'1"."

Of his move Miller said: "It's not everyday you the chance to play in the Premiership. When I was here seven years ago I loved the place. It's changed a lot since then and I'm looking forward to it."

The player said he would have been happy never to have seen the place again after being released, but that "that's football."

Miller revealed that he had spoken to David Sheepshanks while George Burley was on holiday and the final details were tied up after meetings yesterday and today. Miller was given a taste of the Town training facilities and seemed in little doubt that Town was the club for him, George Burley: "Tommy's had a lot of offers and after we spoke I think he made his mind up."

Burley said that although it was a big step up from the Third Division the club are "confident that he's going to do well with Ipswich."
