Derby's Hulse and Gio Linked Again
Derby's Hulse and Gio Linked Again
Sunday, 3rd Jan 2010 12:20

Town are again being linked with a move for Derby County striker Rob Hulse. The 30-year-old was previously mentioned in connection with a move to Portman Road a fortnight ago when Wolves, Newcastle and Middlesbrough were all also said to be interested. Former loanee Giovani Dos Santos is also again said to be on Keane's wish-list

According to one of this morning’s tabloids, boss Roy Keane will look to ship out strike pair Tamás Priskin and Pablo Couñago in order to fund the move for the former Crewe frontman, who is rated at around the £2.5 million mark. Hulse is contracted to Derby until 2011.

Elsewhere, Tottenham midfielder Giovani Dos Santos is again linked with another loan move to the Blues, despite Keane saying that the Mexican international joining a Championship side was highly unlikely earlier in the week: “I only got to work with the boy for a week or two and my first impressions were that he’s a talented boy and that he shouldn’t be playing in the Championship.

“I think Harry [Redknapp] was going to give him a chance before he broke a couple of bones in his foot a couple of months ago.

“He’s got a lot to gain by playing games, but I’m sure he’ll have plenty of options, not just in the Championship, not just in the Premiership but maybe with other teams in Europe.

“It’s a big ask, I would very much doubt it, not that I want to be too negative about it, but it would be a tough one to pull off.”

Keane says he has kept in contact with Redknapp in recent months, presumably with Dos Santos not the only subject of their conversations, the Blues' boss having confirmed that he is targeting other Premier League players during January: “Gio’s a top player but I think Harry’s changed his number from the amount of times I keep ringing him. I’ve spoken to him enough over the last one or two months.

“A talented boy like Gio will I’m sure have plenty of options. He got here last year which was fantastic and did really well for the club and would change the dynamics of your team and your club.

“But it’s a big ask whether we can get him or not. There’s the financial side of it and I'm sure the boy will have plenty of options. You’ve got to ask yourself whether players at a Premiership club want to go to the Championship and if they do I’m sure they’d like to go to a team near the top.

“There are big hurdles for us to get over if we want to get one or two players in, as much as I’m confident when I get a chance to speak to the players that I can sell the club, but these players have got options and it’s going to be tough."

pablo is a fans favourite because he an be entertaining with his cheeky little moves but he isnt good enough for us when it counts he doesnt score many goals and he doesnt create many he just looks entertaining when he trys and pulls off some nice spins now and then lol
i suspect counago will go permently if somewhere can be found and i imagine priskin will go on loan for a month or two if anything and i believe priskin will come good in the end but hes going to have to do it from the bench to start with.
not sure if hulse is worth 2.5 but other better clubs want him to so who knows
a fair amount would likely be peformance related
could get beckford for that amount of money though considering hes practicly out of contract. they turned down 1.5 mill mayb they want more or maybe they want him for the rest of the season regardless of wether he goes for free or not at the end im not sure we could attract him anyway i imagine we could pay him the same as newcastle etc. especially after offloading pabs and lisbie

Keane has been looking for a big target man since the summer and it isn't always the goals a player scores (heskey for England????) but the opportunities his prescence creates for the players round him. If Hulse is that type of player then he would be well worth 2.5m if his prescense sends us shooting up the table

Why is he down playing our chances of getting Gio though? It might be true but it almost makes it seem like he's not even trying to get him. Gio loved our fans and I think he'd like to come back here for the rest of the season. I am a big fan of Keano though and I hope he pulls off some great deals this window :)

Santos is a long shot... but lets give it a go. He's not doing anything else. He's not getting a sniff at Spurs and the player thrived with us.... It's a short career - as they keep telling us, explaining such high wages - so why not try playing some games!!! Too many players are happy to sit on their backsides in the stand.

Rant over.

Priskin can go, so too can Martin, Bruce and let's not make Stern John our No.1 target man. He had one or two nice touches yesterday - but doesn't work hard enough.

Brown, Trotter, Healy and maybe Smith can go out on loan.

If Priskin & Lisbie go, I'd keep Pablo and maybe start playing him or bringing him off the bench....

Hulse..... not convinced. Another also ran. He's okay, but a) we want more than an average player and b) £2.5m for him? Do me a favour.....

We need a couple of signings that's clear - but lets have some inspired signings please, not ordinary over-priced cr*p which I'm afraid Martin & Priskin are...

p.s. would love Gio if we could get him permanently or loan with view to permanent otherwise it will be gutting when he goes back, again

I would give Wickham a chance while stead not about, and go for Lambert of Southampton already scored 21 goals this season.

Christ if we ship out all the players you guys have mentioned so far we'll be in trouble!! Bruce may not be getting a sniff, but Keane still needs some half decent "squad" players in case of injury/loss of form or confidence.

Gio is a massive long shot, but screw it, it's nice to dream!

I think this Jan will be a real test for Keane to prove to Town fans that he has some connections out there.

Oh and Priskin out is not an issue for me. Not really done it at all has he.

Counago, whilst it would be a shame to see him go maybe we need some fresh changes up top.

Could be a very interesting January................

a lot of our players being slagged off on here, dont think it's neccesary boys. Priskin, still a young man living in a foreign land just moved to a new club again who have had a less than perfect start to the season, not ideal circumstances in which to flourish i would suggest

Gio wont come, and I hope Hulse wont either (esp @ that price)

Too early to sell Priskin, he should be given a chance now the midfields performing, he needed better service earlier in the season and now there's a likely-hood of him receiving it.

Well I agree with trying to get gio and it would be father slim. i would not like to see pablo leave the way he holds the ball up I would miss. Priskin well he has not shown his true colours for us but he has not had much of a chance. Maybe seeing him go could be good for him to get a club who he plays well for :) . as for beckford i agree with puting a bid in because I was always told "you dont ask you dont get" it would not hert to try. As for Hulse im not shaw that he would be the one I dont have anything against him but I dont think he is worth priskin and pablo. COYB keano you can do it.

I agree with Slowerball, Counago should be used more especially when Stead is back as they compliment each other added to the fact we now have the midfield settled and Garvan playing who passes to feet . If we want to use a target option no one wins more headers than Walters so we already have it .
Dont waste money on Hulse who is not scoring , and offload Priskin who was signed for scoring a couple of high profile goals in the cup, when Lisbie has a better proven scoring record in this division . I would also try and swap Martin for Ambrose if Palace are that skint

I know that everyone loves Pabs but time is not on his side and I think we have better stikers at the club and there are much better strikers out there, so many thanks Pablo but cherio. Priskin has not been given a proper chance to shine and remember that he is only 23! with Stead's suspension why not give him a couple of games on the bounce and I'm sure with the team playing much better overall we will see the real Tamas Priskin.

Stern John's loan has only been extended by another month as cover for Stead but I doubt very much that we will see him in February.

Lisbie I cant see ever pulling on a Town jersey again as he clearly doesn't want to play for us so no doubt if Colchester dont want to pay up then someone will.

Why not Kris Boyd, Kenny Miller or Nacho Novo of Rangers? £30m+ in debt they'll be happy to reduce their wage bill and will probably accept almost any offer.

Personally i would like to see priskin go. Pablo i'll just let you decide on that one, i know he's not a 20 goals + goalscorer but the way he holds the ball up releases it makes chances. If i had a choice i would loan him out, everyone's happy. For Hulse he's the kind of player we need big strong , not scared to put himself about but 2.5 m is a wee bit to steep. Gio i would love to see back at Pr but sadly can't see it happening. I KNOW THIS MIGHT NOT BE TRUE BUT I HEARD TOWN ARE LINKED WITH AIDEN MCGEADY. p.s we would never get him.

Get rid of Priskin, keep Counago......hasn't had a fair crack of the whip this season. Hulse at 2.5m is insanity, and with his record as well not the kind of player I'd be happy with.....(although I was unhappy with JM signing Jon Stead, how wrong I was!)

Gio would be a great addition, get him in!
