Keane: Civelli Will Have to Remain Patient
Keane: Civelli Will Have to Remain Patient
Monday, 14th Dec 2009 13:22

Boss Roy Keane says midfielder Luciano Civelli will have to remain patient as he continues his recovery from the knee ligament injury he suffered back in March. Civelli has suffered a setback recently and is now not expected to return to action until the end of January at the very best.

Keane told the club site: "Luca's had a small setback and we have to be patient with him and so does he because he's had a bad injury.

"I've been there myself and the recovery is rarely straightforward. It's also a mental challenge as much as a physical one, more so in fact.

"Luca's rehab was always going to be the big one for us. Obviously, it's hard for him being away from his family as well. You don't just have to be 16 to suffer from homesickness and we will give him time off with his family over Christmas.

"It's about getting a balance between doing his recovery work and getting some time off mentally."

David Norris, who has also been out long-term with knee ligament damage, is expected to return to the first team early in the new year.

His Facebook activity suggests he's in good spirits, who wouldn't be a bit homesick living thousands of miles away from home with buggar all to do because your knees bust.

Where's the sense in grumbling between each other over his potential, get behind the lad and wish him well to get fit soon and show us himself how well he can play

If he can skin a defender like Clive Woods (or even Jimmy Robertson) AND deliver a cross like Garvan we've got a world beater on our hands. If he can't do the latter, we might as well stick with OG.

I think Luca was looking better with each game he played before his injury. Whether he can (once fully fit) get back to where he was before the injury remains to be seen, but I genuinely hopes he does it.

I think even though he will (hopefully) return this season, we can pretty much rule out seeing the 'best' out of him this year because it will take time for him to get fully match fit and his confidence back, which is a real shame. Saying that, maybe he'll be a useful addition to the team around March/April time when we might be around the fringes of the Play Offs?

Good luck, Luca!

I am sick of reading UEFA81 this and that dont pay attention to him this is about itfc not someone obviously lonely and seeking attention by causing a stir. Theres plenty more in life then just winding people up just to feel noticed.

now...

Civelli - ive heard good things about i cant wait to see him and see what keane thinks of him once his fit.

uefa81, I went to an anger management course last night and told them that I could not stop drinking. They said that I should go to alcoholics anonymous. I told them that I knew that but was too drunk to go down there!

I went to alcoholics anonymous 4 years ago. I still drink, but under a different name!

Oh almost forgot, Good luck luca.

Civelli did look good but in an average side at the end of last season (a bit like Lisbie at Colchester) so will he walk back into the side on his return? who knows but he will certainly add strength & depth to our improving squad. COYB!

I can't see him playing to much Football this season. It's not worth the risk. Might as well make sure he is 100% for next season.l
