Keane: Civelli Will Have to Remain Patient
Keane: Civelli Will Have to Remain Patient
Monday, 14th Dec 2009 13:22

Boss Roy Keane says midfielder Luciano Civelli will have to remain patient as he continues his recovery from the knee ligament injury he suffered back in March. Civelli has suffered a setback recently and is now not expected to return to action until the end of January at the very best.

Keane told the club site: "Luca's had a small setback and we have to be patient with him and so does he because he's had a bad injury.

"I've been there myself and the recovery is rarely straightforward. It's also a mental challenge as much as a physical one, more so in fact.

"Luca's rehab was always going to be the big one for us. Obviously, it's hard for him being away from his family as well. You don't just have to be 16 to suffer from homesickness and we will give him time off with his family over Christmas.

"It's about getting a balance between doing his recovery work and getting some time off mentally."

David Norris, who has also been out long-term with knee ligament damage, is expected to return to the first team early in the new year.

His old club Banfield won the league yesterday, so that should bring a smile to his face

It will be great to have Chuck and Civelli back. It will be like having 2 new signings. Can we really make the play-offs? Bet your ass we can.

What little I saw of him before his injury impressed me, looking forward to him and Chuck being back and fit :)

As everyone keeps saying....let's not rush him back, sounds like there still a long way to go for him to recover fully and get back to his best.

Good luck with the recovery Luca.

In all honesty guys, and be objective - is he good enough?

I wasn't overawed - All for giving him a chance obviously - but the jury is out, no?

Please correct me, and thrill me if i'm wrong

How many games for a new club, in a new league, in a new country did he actually get to play before his knee popped? I thought he was improving with every performance, and can't wait for him to get back in the squad! COYB

PutYaBootsOnKeano - I know exactly what you mean, I keep seeing postings on here along the lines of "it is going to be great when Civellis back", and always get me thinking where that came from?

Fair enough, we didnt see much of him before his injury, but in the same way it may be harsh to doubt him, we cant big him up either. Its 50/50, either he will be good, and I hope he is, or he will be Ulrick Le Pen mark 2.

Reading between the lines I don't think he'll be back this season - if at all. You heard it here first.

I fear we will never see him on the pitch for us ever again.

PutYaBootsOnKeano - The best arguement i can give in the case of Luca is thus. We have what many believe to be one of the best right backs in the championship in Rosey, yet when he was playing for Reading against us back in march, Luca made him look average. If you can do that, your must be pretty special.

I have to agree with elburro on this 1, alot of comments on here regarding civelli suggest that he is already a hit at PR. However, although i acknowledge it takes a while to settle in he was not exactly setting the league alight with the few games he did play. With garven back in the picture amongst some other very good midfielders he certainly will not walk straight into the team when he is fully fit. Don't get me wrong, i'm sure he is a decent player and i hope he is a hit for town but the more we big him up and the more we expect the greater the pressure becomes. I think its best to be realistic, if you dont expect too much you cant be too disappointed. All i'm saying is don't expect too much...

uefa81 and brazil1982 the same person. Why don't u spend your time following your own team naaaaaaaarwich and concentrate on them instead of trying to p**s everyone off on our site. U really are a nob

Norwichbeater - Was there any need? As much as I detest negativity here and in particular UEFA81's "unique" way of supporting his team I do feel I have to step up, defend and agree with what he's said. It was one hell of an injury, the fact that it was back in March and it'll be AT LEAST end of Jan before we see him back in action proves it. If the setback means he's done some damage by pushing beyond his current limits then it could be that he isn't able to recover enough to be able to play professionally again. That said I am hoping it is only a minor setback and we see him back...

How can my comment be construed as being disruptive? It is simply my thoughts on the article.

Totally agree norwichbeater - so obviously a norwich wind up merchant - fooling no-one with the name and the gatesy picture - had you sussed long ago mate - very sad...
May be right re civelli (only time will tell) but the fact that you are so negative about absolutely everything gives you right away....

Matt the blue - thanks. Thanks also for explaining the view.

norwichbeater, toxteth - grow up. Having multiple usernames is something children do. toxteth, im pleased for you that you had me "sussed" long ago. It's just very sad for you that you are completely wrong despite being so convinced of your convictions.

In our current run of form, and with a stronger squad than we had last season, it's great that we don't have to consider rushing him back into the side. That said, get well SOON Luca!

I can see him challenging Wright for the left-back spot on his return too (he's played their earlier in his career), but then again, do we really want an Argentinian with an Italian passport playing at left-back for us? ;^D

norwichbeater - ever thought of attending an anger management course? I've heard they're very good - right up your street.

No real details given as to the precise nature of the "small set back". Giving the lad time off over Christmas and the mention of homesickness does ring some alarm bells as to how well he is coping with the mental side of his rehabilitation.

I wish him all the best for a speedy end to his injury, but I don't think we will see him at his best anytime this season and I am beginning to think we will not see him til next, if at all.

I hope I am proved wrong.
