Stern John Loan Signing Confirmed
Stern John Loan Signing Confirmed
Thursday, 26th Nov 2009 19:19

Town have confirmed the signing of Crystal Palace striker Stern John on loan until 29th December. The paperwork on the deal was completed close to the 5pm deadline with the authorities rubber-stamping the move later in the evening.

The Trinidad and Tobago international has played for the Eagles only seven times since joining them in the summer after undergoing elbow surgery in August. He is yet to score this season.

Having played for Malta Carib Alcons in his home country, John moved on to the Carolina Dynamo, the New Orleans Riverboat Gamblers and Columbus Crew in the US before relocating to England with Nottingham Forest in 1999.

Since then the 5ft 11in tall frontman has played for a long list of clubs, largely at Championship level: Birmingham City, Coventry, Derby (loan), Sunderland, Southampton and Bristol City (loan), before joining Palace in the summer on a free transfer. He has made 109 appearances for his country, scoring 69 goals.

In eight months at Sunderland under Keane between January and August 2007, John scored five goals in 10 starts and six sub appearances, helping the Black Cats to win the Championship. Overall in English football, John has scored 97 goals in 250 starts and 105 sub substitute appearances.

The striker will train with his new team-mates on Friday and is likely to make his debut at Cardiff on Sunday.

Am I right in thinking Palace still owe us money for Lee?? If so does this mean this is our pay back!!

Sorry but as others have said stinks of desperation. We've gone from signing multi-million pound players in the summer to emergency loan deals for Crystal Palace reserves in November. I so hope he does well but don't see this as any sort of solution to our problems. Seriously fearing relegation...

Tell you what hussey1969, I'll lie just to please you! I'm delighted that we've signed a 33 year old, who has scored less goals this season than Priskin! This was our chance to sign a quality striker, this is a joke.... Why not give Alan Brazil a bell? maybe he'd like the chance to pull on a Town shirt, well he's scored the same amount of goals this season!!

All you eternal optomists!!!! How is a 33 year old not a sign of absolute desperation!! Keane sells Rhodes, can't seem to motivate/decide who he wants up front and has sp@nked £2mil on a striker who spent most of Saturday evening on his ar@e or offside....I'm still a loyal fan but can't fathom Keane's team selections (Martin on saturday), rotation of strikers...I hate to say but Keane is losing the plot quickly....how can you show me hope for Saturday all Keano' types!

i have a pair of Stern's red boots he had at Southampton, he gave them to my brother in law, hmmmmm, well, lets hope he's got some new scoring boots.
Good luck sir! a hat trick should help on sunday!

hiltz - there's no sign of any hope on Saturday whatsoever....seeing as we are playing on Sunday.

Rather have not signed John and seen a consistant approach to strikers...

AJblue added 22:11 - Nov 26
Hiltz..surely Keane is consistant, he changes strikers every game, regular as clockwork.
But with a new man to try out perhaps that will end?

Hussey1969 damn right I would of moaned if we hadn't brought anyone in! "Give the guy a chance!" your missing the point! we no longer have time to "give anyone a chance!" (FFS!) we are second from bottom with 2 hard away games coming up, we need quality, not a has been, C.Palace injured reserve!

To be honest I dont know.... but I was just desperately hoping for someone who would have the ability to bang the ball in the net, & turn a game for us. I SOOO wanted Keane to be a success, but we are realisticly running out of time, I now fear for our survival. Don't you?

KUTB added 22:23 - Nov 26
Desperate. This really shows that Keane doesn't have a clue how to turn things round so is making a punt on a has been journeyman. 2 or 3 years ago, yeah, decent enough signing - but not now. Still, when you've spunked millions on the lieks of Martin & Priskin I suppose you have to scrape around for what you can get. Clearly Evans isn't prepared to gamble much more money on Keane's transfer activities.

i do yes.all im saying is see how he gets on.if it doesnt work out he goes back to Palace,we are hardly scoring goals for fun.maybe, just maybe he may score a few and restore confidence to the other strikers.

KeanoITFC...does that mean anyone detracting from the common consensus of Keane is a Budgie in disguise....like a number of others I pay my money, support my club, travel the country....and have an opinion....like UEFA and others have said, you won't hear me boo'ing but it doesn't mean I'm a blind optomist...yes I wish Rhodes was given a chance..but hey that didn't happen...but I fail to see that John will give something different than we have got....why can't Keane get the team playing on the same wave length or has he got to drop everyone to get their attention...re Garvan....come on Keano sort it out Son!!!

This is a pathetic signing, i like Keane and want him to do well but this proves he cant attract any players of real quality, they are all scared of him, im really worried for our championship status now

Maybe..... I guess this is Keane's last throw of the dice, we have John til the end of December, Keane said yesterday himself that he has 6 weeks to save his job. KUTB makes a good point, about Evans not being prepared to gamble much more money on Keane.
