Southampton Linked With Move For Thatcher
Southampton Linked With Move For Thatcher
Wednesday, 18th Nov 2009 08:44

Forgotten man Ben Thatcher is being targeted by Southampton, according to one of this morning’s newspapers. Veteran defender Thatcher is yet to play a game under Roy Keane’s management, having suffered a knee ligament injury in the 3-2 derby victory over Norwich at the end of last season.

The Saints are reported to want to sign Thatcher on loan before the November 26th deadline, then make the deal permanent in January.

In September, Keane said Thatcher, who last season was reported to be unwilling to relocate to Suffolk, wasn’t in his plans at that point in time, going on to outline why squad members might fall out of favour with him: “Players have got to give themselves a chance, whether it’s players travelling, their attitude to training or being on time for training. That all comes into the reckoning if you want to be in my team.

“There’s lots of issues with lots of players, although generally speaking I’m delighted with the group, but there’ll always be one or two you need a bit more from.”

Last month, Thatcher, who is also yet to feature in a reserves league game, suffered a slight setback with his knee problem, but wasn’t expected to be sidelined for more than a couple of weeks.

Thatcher joined the Blues on a free transfer from Charlton in the summer of 2008, signing a two-year deal and has made 23 appearances for Town without scoring. Southampton already have one Town left-back signed on a free transfer, Dan Harding having moved to St Mary’s in the summer.

Elsewhere, Sheffield Wednesday central defender Richard Wood is understood to have held talks with Coventry City yesterday regarding a move to the Sky Blues. One report this morning claims Town are still interested in signing Wood, but he appears very much more likely to be on his way to the Ricoh Arena.

Its high time we got him off the wage bill. The medical could prove to be a problem. Maybe they should give him a tour of the treatment room before showing him round the ground.

bedsit, you're the enemy of the day. CGS is off the hook for now!
This is the best rumour of the week. Thatcher, in my opinion doesn't make the cut and even though he hasn't been given a chance under roy yet a move wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Take Garvan with him, I suppose you also want keane to stay bedsit!

I'd have Keane and Thatcher in my team instead of having Keane as manager any day of the week! Garvan and thatcher have proved way more in there playing careers than Keane has in hias lame managerial one!

I want to be the enemy so....

Keane is a mug get him OUT

Thatcher - I liked him about as much as his political namesake, please shut the door on the way out.

Wales - yes have some good u21 prospects, but as New Zealand are in the world cup and they aren't it sums them up as a football (round ball) nation.

Keanish, regarding your comment on Thatchers career, i take it you are really happy all the careers of our WORLD CLASS back 4. There is no way that Thatcher is worse than our right footed left back it's just that his attitude stinks & Keane doesn't like that obviously.

Thatcher has not been fit since Keane has arrived so there is no way he could have played him -players do get injured ! . So what happens is that speculation grows that Keane doesnt like him and other clubs are interested etc. However when Thatcher is fit I am sure he will be Keanes type of player and willl work hard to get his place back.

Do you know what,you lot?

I dream of the day when there is a story on here that actaully matters to the dat to day running of our great team.
Thatcher to leave, another rumour that affects ITFC how?
A lesser wage bill, great.

I also dream of the day when whatever "rumour" or story is posted on here, it is commented on for its merits, not just an exceuse for the 2 factions to either have a go at Keane or sing his praises.
Let him manage the team, as he is paid to do, and leave him out of your petty squabbling.....Rant over

A question for you, you are manager, you have a strict rule that people who work for you are to live 'x' number of miles away, and you do not suffer tradiness (as no manager of anything would who is worth his salt) one of your workers refuses to comply with your rules though everyone else does so what do you do? Do you 1) Let it slide thinking one player ourt of all your workforce isn't bad?
2) Get rid of him as his attitude stinks and it could rub off on your other workers?
I leave it to you to decide but if you pick 1, I sure as hell don't want you running my business moral would be crap and you would constantly be having problems with the workers and my profits are going to suffer. At the end of the day you atr in business to make money, not to pander to one worker who thinks he is above the rules that everyone else follows.

greektractor - thanks haha
i do want garvan sold as he can't help us to the prem!!
it would be more dead wood off the wage bill to be replaced with players that want to give 100%

you certainly are deluded.
have you seen the table lately????

better to get rid of keane & have the 2 two physcopaths leaving together
