Walters to Keep Armband?
Walters to Keep Armband?
Monday, 19th Oct 2009 17:08

Boss Roy Keane says he is undecided who will captain the Blues if Alex Bruce returns to the side when Town take on Watford at Portman Road on Tuesday. Jon Walters has worn the armband during Bruce’s recent absence due to a groin injury.

Keane said: “I’ll have a look at it. It’s not something I’ve thought too much about.

”I talked to Alex at the start of the season and said we’d see how it pans out. Obviously Alex has missed the last few games because of his groin injury and I think Jon Walters has enjoyed it, so that’s a decision for me to make if Alex gets back in the starting 11.

“I think Jon’s led the team well, and I think Gareth has enjoyed the fact that he can just focus on his game. You’d like two or three captains in your team.

"As a striker Jon doesn't play in the best position to be a skipper but he leads by example in the way he trains and plays the game."

Town have no new injuries after Saturday’s draw against Swansea but midfielder Carlos Edwards will come back into Keane’s plans after being rested on Saturday. Asmir Begovic will continue in goal.

he's one of the hardest working guys in the team, he deserves the armband.

This is getting ridiculous. This chopping and changing with the captaincy cant be good for team spirit. Sort it out Keane.

I am not sure about Walters. Not sure if your captain can play up front? Surely needs to be a midfielder or defender?

Wasn't impressed with Walters leadership on Saturday!

Always gives 100% for the team much the same as Matt Holland did. Well deserved! Walters to lead us to our first 3 points tommorow.

Surely we have bigger things to be worrying about (still no win, bottom of the table, threat of relegation) than which player gets to wear an elasticated piece of material for 90 minutes?

I've just seen Swansea's goal - offside or not, how on earth did this great new keeper let that one in?!!

Let Walters keep it. Bruce shouldn't be a guaranteed starter.

The armband should be with Leadbitter, organiser and a leader...........

Just needs to work on beating the first man with his corners, other than that hes an animal

I personally think that Leadbitter should wear the armband because Keano had ago at him early on in the second half and also when the teams were going into the tunnel, he was talking to the players, from his past experiences, i'm backing him

Thetruth - excellent call. Agreed. Leadbitter would be a fine choice.

Olimar - Also point taken about Shearer.

I agree Leadbitter would be a good captain. He leads from the front

Remember who signed Walters, God I miss him!

Yes give it too Walters for a few games, then get him in a meeting and tell him you want someone a bit deeper to wear the band, step in Leadbitter!

KEANE OUT

We need 11 captains on that pitch for the rest of this season..shouldn't matter which one's got that armband on.

Is it just me or is Jon Walters a little over rated? And still living on the reputation he earned 2 seasons ago? Beacuse to be honest i'd take 3 mil from wigan for him now!!
