Boothroyd Not Commenting on Lisbie Return
Boothroyd Not Commenting on Lisbie Return
Monday, 19th Oct 2009 13:07

Colchester boss Aidy Boothroyd has refused to comment on Roy Keane’s decision to recall striker Kevin Lisbie from his season-long loan in January. Lisbie wants to remain with the U’s but Keane says other clubs are interested in signing him on a permanent basis.

Boothroyd said: “I have opinions on the subject but if I get involved in any tittle-tattle I wouldn't be representing the union if I said what I thought, so I won't.

“At the end of the day, Kevin Lisbie is Ipswich's player and whatever they decide to do, they will do.

“If you asked Kevin, he would tell you that he likes it at Colchester. He's part of something that we think is going to be very special that we're building.”

Colchester chairman Robbie Cowling says his club would struggle to compete if there were to be a bidding war in January: "We like Kevin Lisbie a lot at this club and it's no surprise to me that he's raised interest.

"We'll have to talk to Ipswich and see what we can do to keep him, but he's definitely a Championship-quality player and it will obviously be difficult for us to compete if there is a bidding war.

"We tried very hard to keep him before, so we'll just have to see how it unfolds."

Lisbie, who cost Town £750,000 when he moved from Colchester in the summer of 2008, is contracted to the Blues until 2011.

if bringing him 'home' forces Collywobbles to pay £250k then so be it.

We owe colchester or Lisbie nothing, if they want him buy him. I doubt Colchester are even fully subsidising his wages so why should we do them any favours?

I agree with Keano on this if he is on loan and clubs are interested in buying him bring him back and flog him him (a) we get some cash and (b) no doubt we are paying part of his wages whilst on loan. Good business sense if you ask me and at the end of the day Lisbie is an employee of ITFC so should shut up and do as he is told !!!

Lisbie has been paid very well buy us so Keane is right.

Anyway he only ran if the ball was within a 5 yard radius of him.

SImple if Boothroid is upset then buy him. We don't want him just get shot of him, so get your club to stick its grubby little hands in its pocket and buy him.

at last - a subject we all agree on

Lisbie brought this on himself by running his mouth, i don't care who is interested, or where he goes, but i do think RK is spot on...

ITFC first
uncommited, waste of space, overpaid players wishes second

Keanes got my backing, and if you think back to Shane Supples comments post leaving I don't think Lisbie is the only case of this type.

building a team unit takes time and familiarity, i know results are not going great, lord knows we all want a win (or 12!) but uniting together both on and off the pitch is the way forward.

keane is in charge, let the manager manage.

We are supporters are ITFC, so lets SUPPORT!!!!!!!!

Ipswich always pay over the odds for players and let our own talents go on the cheap. Time for getting mugged off over transfers and loans to stop. If Keano doesn't want Lisbie then recalling and selling him in January is the best thing to do. As others have said Col U won't be paying 100% of his wages and all the time his valuation is going down with contract expiry drawing nearer. If Boothroyd thinks so highly of him he'll put the cash on the table to make it permanent in January won't he? Like hell he will!

Lisbie started this. Roy was right to respond and why shouldn't we try to recoup some of the £600K we wrongly splashed out on him? What a waste of money. Roy has done the right thing.

Lisbie at Ipswich was a very lazy player who only seemed to want to compete if the ball actually landed at his feet, Roy Keane is the Manager & his decision should always be respected whether or not we agree or if indeed it turns out to be a poor one, every organisation requires a leader or Manager have faith it will all turn around shortly I'm sure.

Get Lisbie back and sell him asap for as much as we can, I doubt that we shall recover his cost though, I think that he has spoken out of turn and will no doubt have shot himself in the foot !
