Keane Sets Sights on Another Target
Keane Sets Sights on Another Target
Monday, 19th Oct 2009 10:26

Boss Roy Keane has set his sights on another loan target after the player he chasing at the end of last week decided to remain with his Premier League club. Keane is looking for two additions to his squad, but is currently only making progress on one front.

Keane said: “As I said last week, there was a long way to go and the player we wanted to get permission to speak to didn’t want to come, he wanted to stay and fight for his place at a Premiership club.

“I can understand that 100% and that’s the way it is. We’ll keep pushing hard to try and strengthen the squad. We’re looking at someone else, but there’s a long way to go with that deal as well.

"Some of these players have spent a long time trying to get into the Premiership or have been playing in the Premiership for a long time and are very reluctant to drop into the Championship, and that’s something I understand 100%.

“We’ll continue to make progress, I’ve been in contact with the managers and they've said they’d let me know how things are going. We have to respect the managers and the players. We can’t drag players down here if they don’t want to come.”

Keane admits making headway on the loan front has proved difficult: “The progress we were hoping to make was in one of the positions and we’ve hit a few brick walls in terms of the other position.

“If I told you the position, it’s clearly a tough position to improve and there’s not that many players out there, believe it or not. Premiership clubs don’t want to do anything and teams in the Championship don’t want to do deals with other Championship clubs.

“We’ve made no progress on one of the positions, but we’re hoping on the other that we might get feedback next week, but it’s a big if.”

Keane says he knows nothing of the reported Derby County interest in Jon Stead but wouldn’t be shocked if an offer came in for the out-of-favour striker: “There’s nothing that I’m aware of, but when you leave out a good player like Steady it wouldn't surprise me if there were enquiries for him.

“I think there might have been one or two calls to the chief executive. If clubs want to make an offer, they’ll make an offer.

“There are no impending loans out, but that could change in the next hour, that’s the business we’re in. I might see you tomorrow and we’ll have had a few enquiries today. That’s the way it goes.”

Town have no new injury concerns ahead of Tuesday's home game against Watford with Carlos Edwards coming back into Keane's thinking after being rested at the weekend.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Aldeburgh Kevin Webster says he is unaware of complaints being made regarding the noise being made by Roy Keane’s dogs, as was reported over the weekend: “I have not heard of any problems whatsoever.

”The town council has not received any complaints so the only thing I can think is a complaint may have been made to Suffolk Coastal. I think it has been blown out of proportion, we are not aware of any problems.”

Elsewhere, former Town loanee Giovani Dos Santos has been linked with a January move from Spurs to Portsmouth.

Whatever Roy. I'm tired of hearing it now. Don't say anything until you have signed someone and they are standing next to you. Otherwise you look like you can't attract anyone to the club.

Fair play, we're not the most attractive side in the Championship now. Were at the start of the season, but not now. We'll be lucky to get any quality players.

Jambo..... If he says nothing people moan he's not doing enough, if he tells the truth people say he's being to honest....

I never liked Jim as a manager (great player) but its the same crap as with him damned if he does, damned if he doesn't....

Not having a go personally at you Jambo, but I'm going to stop using this site if so called supporters don't stop bitching at every news story.....

It is frustrating that we don't seem able to attract players on loan, but you can surely understand the reluctance of decent Premiership players to come to us when we are bottom of the table. As to RK keeping quiet about the loans until they are done. I tend to agree. However, you can be sure that some fans will then have a go, saying that we are not being informed about what is happening.

Yeah yeah & we'll get promoted this year, Steve Bruce & Mark Hughes are failiures, Wrighty, Steady, Garvan will never play for the team again & we're making real progress. Sure thing . . . . to league 1.

According to a Eurosport news item on the beach ball goal at Sunderland and other weekend news, Giovanni Dos Santos is CURRENTLY on loan at Ipswich! But before we get our hopes up maybe we should consider whether they are using out of date information.

Apparantly, on tracing the strange whimpering & whelping noises to Roy's garage, the police broke in & discovered Thatcher, Wright & Garvan cowering in the corner.

well, you can understand why some would'nt want to come here.Having said that, i'm not so sure they want to fight for there place at there club it sounds to me that they are happy sitting on there backsides on £20k,£30k+ a week and thats not the type we want anyway. If they really wanted to show there boss what they were made of they would want to play football week in week out, even if they don't like the thought of playing for Keane on a fulltime basis 3 months is'nt along time,so that when they get recalled they are ready to go!It would say alot about a mans personality if they had the guts to take on a challenge such as ours. Anyway, first 3 points tomorrow night ....hopefully!...COYB!

Not that the residents of Aldeburgh want Roy Keane to move away because of his noisy dogs ... but its been confirmed that Connor Wickham has been seconded to throw them their sticks ...

Hate to say it, but I can't see how an experienced Premiership defender benchwarmer is going to come to us on loan now we're at the bottom. Getting a Championship one suffers the same problem. We need an experienced defensive coach more than anything. And lots of training.

"it's clearly a tough position to improve and there's not that many players out there, believe it or not"

100% left back (having tried at least 4 players who aren't left backs in that position already this season...)
