Stead Linked With Derby Return
Stead Linked With Derby Return
Sunday, 18th Oct 2009 15:04

Striker Jon Stead has been linked with a loan move to Derby County by one of this morning’s tabloids. Stead was left out of the Town 18 yesterday and hasn’t started a match since the Nottingham Forest game on September 15th.

Stead, who earlier this week conceded he might leave the club in the near future, was previously on loan at Pride Park in 2006/07 when a Sunderland player, scoring three goals in 15 starts and two sub appearances.

Meanwhile, Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O’Driscoll has dismissed speculation linking him with loan moves for Stead and Town team-mate Owen Garvan: “Stead and Garvan are not really on our radar because of the cost involved.”

I personally believe Garvan has a role to play. Caan anyone honestly say he is worse than Trotter?!

As for Stead - well he can go - not a good signing. Terrible in fact.

Well I don't know how about Mr. Keene, but I think Roy Keane would do well to get rid of Stead, truly couldn't hit wood in a forest.

Stead, top goalscorer last season and an awful signing.... how are we basing these points of view???

Jon Stead cost around £600k, the same as the much older Alan Lee was sold for. He scored quite a few goals last year and looked reasonable value for money. This season he is probably suffering from lack of service and the constant changes to the team, which is disappointing. Maybe with better management he could come back into form.

He's barely played this season, RK said he would never play for Ipswich again under his management, can't be much of a morale boost for him. Im afraid im on Stead's side in this one, he's a reasonable striker (no worst than the other strikers) who didnt get a fair chance.

Having said that, he hasnt played half as well as he did last reason, this is probably due to the confidence thing. So it wouldnt surprise me if he left.

To all of my fellow blue veined lads n lasses......I know there's going to be some revolt to this but.......

I truly hope that ME comes out and says that RK's contract has been extended to 5 years. That'll take the pressue off of everyone. Especially from the press and us so-called followers.

Keane never said Stead would not play again, that was Davis in the Eadt. We just need to put our best team out against Watford, which does not include Smith, Trotter or Peters.

R Wright, D Wright, Bruce, McAuley, Rosenior, Edwards, Garvan, Leadbitter, Walters, Counago, Priskin should be the team

Well said bluelass7, it's not a revolt you'll get to your comments. What you said makes sense to the many true support, we need some sort of stability here the side will come together the green roots as they say are showing. Everybody was so happy when Keane was given the job but have been so quick to dismiss him get behind the boys, the tide WILL turn!

Markand 1986 - great team - agree totally but fear it will be completely different as Peters and Trotter are clearly Keanes favourites.

Greek Tractor - well said!

Bluelass7 - you too. Getting rid of RK now would be disastrous. Many a great manager has started slowly and gone on to do excellent work, Alex Ferguson, Burley and of course Sir Bobby to name a few. It'll come, starting Tuesday, 2-1 the Town!

bluebudge1 you are spot on! John Duncan was the worst ever manager. I suppose younger town fans forget to learn their history! Town will win on Tuesday, i'm certain of it. Hopefully a thumping because someone is going to get one soon!

Markand1986... team spot on maybe Stead for Priskin ,trouble is Keane is in a difficult position with Garvan now, as if he brings him back and we win everyone will point to the fact he has not been playing and if he doesnt and we fail to win everyone will say why isnt Garvan playing ? Keane needs to swallow his pride admit it is not working and get a passer in to collect the ball from the back four instead of just hoofing it to Walters in a 50/50. Wright our best defender,Garvan top scoring midfielder,Stead top scorer this is where a new manager should start his team not discard them all .
We will win tomorrow night 2-0 but i dont think it will be the mass turn around of form everyone is expecting .
Up The Town - perhaps hi jack the Mariner move to Plymouth !!!!!

Stead won't be going anywhere before tuesday & I doubt he will be going anywhere after that. ME was convinced to part with 600k for Stead last year. He did well for us & he scored goals. Has RK got enough sway left to kick anymore investments to the kerb having not won a game? Doubt it. Stead won't be going anywhere until our new manager has assessed him.

Counago and Priskin will score goals if we play them together reguarly , or Wickham and Stead for that matter, what RK has to do is play a settled side and let them get on with it.
for god sake, the lads are never going to gel if there is constant tinkering, i mean what have we got to lose?
The unsettled side of things has got to stop, what the hell is he trying to prove?
Play two strikers for three or four games together and let them prove to all if they can do it or not and then formulate an opinion from that.
My patience is wearing very very thin, if RK thinks we did enough to win the game on Saturday play the same side Tuesday but without that absolute waste of time called Trotter, I "player cammed " him on Saturday and was discussted with his ineptness. WTF, he must have something on someone to continually get picked ahead of Garvan, hurry up and get back in the side Mr Norris.

Top scorer last season with 14..not always brilliant but a hard worker and gets a lot of unfair stick from morons on here...I'd rather see Stead stay ahead of Keane to be honest.
