Barton Ruled Out of Newcastle Side Facing Town
Barton Ruled Out of Newcastle Side Facing Town
Thursday, 24th Sep 2009 15:03

Midfielder Joey Barton is the latest Newcastle player to be ruled out of Saturday’s live BBC2 game with Town at Portman Road (KO 5.30pm). The controversial ex-Manchester City man has a foot injury.

Caretaker boss Chris Hughton said: "Joey will not figure. He has had a problem with his foot of late, it is a bit of a hangover from a problem he had earlier in the season, but we hope to have him back in contention soon.”

Aston Villa have confirmed that Marlon Harewood has left them to join Newcastle on a three-month loan.

Harewood, who is expected to make his debut against Town, spent time on loan with the Blues during the 1998/99 season, scoring one goal in five starts and one sub appearance.

This is good news, as whilst Barton is a complete idiot, he's also a very good footballer - him and Guthrie being out can only be a good thing, although they've still got Butt and Smith to play in there.

And the Harewood loan deal has now been confirmed. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/8273123.stm

'Joey will not figure. He has had a problem with his foot of late, it is a bit of a hangover from a problem he had earlier in the season'

Are the words in the right order here unfortunate quote from Hughton. Perhaps it should read 'a hangover problem after his foot injury caused from kicking someone outside a nightclub the night before'

Can't say I am to dissapointed not to see him play, there is still enough in thier midfield to keep us busy on Sat!

Harewood is bound to score against us on Sat, remembr when he was at West Ham and he put them 1-0 up after about 30 secs on New Years Day. Painfull!

I reckon Joey Barton gets too much stick, he is trying his best to put the past behind him and move on. Recently he has been much more careful with his tackling, maybe he deserves it, maybe he doesn't. Can't say I'm dissapointed about him not playing mind you. Just in case.
