Newcastle Still Working on Harewood Signing
Newcastle Still Working on Harewood Signing
Thursday, 24th Sep 2009 12:42

Newcastle United caretaker-manager Chris Hughton says he expects to hear today whether former Town loanee Marlon Harewood will join his club on loan from Aston Villa in time to face the Blues at Portman Road on Saturday. Harewood, who is now over an ankle injury, has been a Magpies target for some weeks.

Hughton said: "Marlon is one we're working on. Whether or not that can be done before Saturday we will find out today."

Another former Town loanee, Danny Simpson, is rated as “touch and go” for Saturday’s match due to an ankle problem.

Argentinian centre-half Fabricio Coloccini is fit again after missing the Carling Cup defeat at Peterborough on Tuesday, but Hungarian defender Tamás Kadar misses a potential battle with fellow countryman Tamás Priskin due to a groin strain.

Jonas Gutierrez (hamstring) and Shola Ameobi (foot), who came close to joining the Blues a year ago but failed a medical, are also definitely out through injury, while Danny Guthrie is suspended having been red-carded at Peterborough in midweek.

If Newcastle sign Harewood chances are he will score on Saturday as former Blues normally do.

I Always remember that miss I think it was against Oxford or Swindon at home, he had an open goal from two yards out and hit the post

For me whether or not Harewood joins them he will not play against us because he is injured and this would be his first day there. But what bothers me is that we should have been chasing him or strikers like him because we badly need a striker. And since David Healy (I am sad about him not being available) and Murphy (Thanks God) are not available we have to look elsewhere asap...

Marlon Harewood, was without doubt the greatest miss I have ever seen & im pretty sure it was against West Ham i think it was on Boxing Day or over Christmas sometime absolutely incredible!! It was harder for him to miss than score, I still laugh about it! Harewood is shite & we shouldnt be worried about him itl probably be that lanky streak of Ex Budgie loanee piss Carroll!! Up the town anyway. Come on lets kick start the season on Saturday! Blue army

Georgi---Totally agree we need a striker asap.We are creating loads of half chances we need a fox in the box,Healy would have been good along side Priskin. Once we click and get that person im sure we will score plenty of goals,as long as we score more than we concede staying the obvious I know !! but travel hundreds of miles to watch my beloved blues could do with a few 5-4 wins, remember the Crewe game? 6-4
Blue Army will be marching this weekend
