Arsenal Confusion
Arsenal Confusion

Reports today claim that Arsenal are continuing their pursuit of Feyenoord's Polish goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek. The Dudek deal had appeared to have broken down prior to Richard Wright beginning talks with the North Londoners.

Feyenoord's Technical Director Rob Baan confirmed: "We are still in negotiations with Arsenal."

And it appears that the £10 million fee which appeared to have scuppered the deal was a press fabrication, Feyenoord President Jorien Van Den Herik said: "All the figures bandied around about a fee of £10m or £8.5m are pure speculation. We certainly never gave Arsenal that kind of indication. It would be nice of them to inform us what is going on."

There is a suggestion that Arsene Wenger is the man who negotiated with Feyenoord, while Vice-Chairman David Dein was talking to Town.

Arsene Wenger is currently on holiday and one report claims that he is keen to get the Dudek deal done on his return. Meanwhile Richard Wright continues to ponder his offer from Arsenal. It all seems a very odd state of affairs.

Hearts keeper Antii Niemi was mentioned as a possible Town target in some papers, although we understand that Andy Marshall, Ian Walker and Magnus Hedman are George Burley's preferred potential goalkeepers.

Danish U21 midfielder Thomas Gaardsoe has again been linked with Town. A few weeks back it was reported that Town had watched the Aalborg player when he featured fo the Danish U21s against Malta.

Now Aalborg Sports Director Lynge Jacobsen has revealed that his well aware of Town interest in their player: "I know Ipswich are interested but so far we have not heard anything from them."

21-year-old Gaardsoe made his debut at first team level at 17 and is rated as having a great deal of potential.

Elsewhere Town are linked with a move for Coventry's Mustapha Hadji. The Moroccan is all set to go to Aston Villa and reports suggest Town are to try to lure him away in much the same was as Villa did with Hassan Kachloul. James Scowcroft is claimed to be going to Coventry in the deal. We can't see it happening.
