Wickham in England Squad
Wickham in England Squad
Tuesday, 11th Aug 2009 09:04

Striker Connor Wickham has been included in the England U17 squad for the FA International Tournament later this month. The 16-year-old already has four caps at U17 level.

The England youngsters face Italy on at Burton Albion August 26th, Turkey two days later at Northampton and finally Portugal at Notts County on August 30th.

Town are yet to confirm whether Wickham will be given permission to play in the matches which would see him miss the Preston fixture on August 29th.

Should be playing for the U19's or U21's

What do you base that opinion on Cardinals. He looks decent but certainly not under 21 standard yet

he is a very good young player with buckets of ability, but he is not at U21 standard YET nor will he be in the thoughts of capello, wickham is yet unproven on the big stage and would have to have miracle season to even be concidered for the U21 championships, so forget about the senior team. LETS NOT RUSH HIM! HE'S THE BEST THING TOWN HAVE GOT!

Great chance for the lad, he's gonna learn a lot from this season and playing for the u17's will give him some fantastic experience and coaching.

I don't get why people are saying he needs to leave to achieve potential, he will be making regular sub appearances and most probably start in the cup games, as a 16 year old it's not helpful for them to start every game. Without doubt the next Rooney.

Quite right! Excellent player. Wouldn't release him though.

Ooooh Oliver, let it go man!!

I agree, good news, very promising but any talk of U-21 apps or going to S. Africa 2010 or even Poland/Ukrine 2012 is ridiculous at the moment, even Jack Wilshire's going to struggle to make the world cup squad next summer and he's at least on Fabio's radar.

Good prospect. Good luck to him. He is getting his chances in the first team and acquitting himself well, lets hope it continues, but some of the talk on here is a bit premature.

Christ, we're already talking about him playing for the full england side within three years! Hope he's not reading this, no pressure Connor!

Lets keep things in perspective, but he does look promising.
