Bowden: Campo-Ambrose Swap Not Dead
Bowden: Campo-Ambrose Swap Not Dead

Chief executive Derek Bowden has confirmed that Charlton proposed a swap deal involving former Blue Darren Ambrose and Iván Campo after last week's game at Portman Road. However, Addicks boss Alan Pardew says the Spaniard won't be on his way to the Valley.

Bowden told TWTD: "There was an enquiry last week. [Charlton assistant manager] Phil Parkinson spoke to Jim after the game, but it's not gone any further than that at the moment. It's not dead, but it hasn't gone any further than there being an enquiry.

"We haven't talked to Charlton about Darren Ambrose, but Phil Parkinson spoke to Jim about a possible swap and it's not dead, it's being looked at. Whether it will happen or not I don't know, I'll probably know in a few days.”

However, Charlton boss Alan Pardew said earlier today that a deal is less likely: "Campo was never coming here. That was never a goer."

Bowden says there was nothing in last week's report linking Celtic's Darren O'Dea with the Blues: "I really don't know where that came from at all. I've not spoken to Celtic.”

The Town chief executive also refuted Scottish claims that the Blues are interested in Rangers full-back Stevie Smith: "This is the first I've heard of that one. That's a completely new one on me.”

Stoke's Ryan Shawcross, however, was the subject of a loan enquiry and remains a possible future target: "We enquired but at the moment he's playing and they've got another Carling Cup tie against Rotherham coming up and they're keen to keep their squad intact.

"So, we've enquired and they've said ‘Not at the moment, thank you very much'. We may look at it again.”

Bowden also says that it is now "possible but unlikely” that the Blues could again move for Portsmouth's David Nugent. The one-time England striker, a frequent Jim Magilton target over the last year, is currently sidelined having undergone surgery on a hernia.
