Singer/songwriter and Town fan Asa Jennings has been inspired to write a musical tribute to Blues legend Kevin Beattie for his forthcoming album. The song, entitled Call Upon The Beat, will be released as a single on CD next month.

TWTD reader and Message Board poster Asa is set to record a live version with Radio Suffolk today with the song receiving its first public airing at a gig at The Milestone on September 28th, where Beattie, who has heard and likes the song, will be present.

Asa told TWTD, which is referenced in the lyrics, how the idea for the song came about: "My dad Karl bumped into The Beat and got talking with him. He mentioned it to me, I came up with some lyrics and the song was born from there.

"I have been going to Portman Road since my Dad took me aged three and I have only missed about half a dozen home games since then. I'm now 28 and sit in the North Stand lower.

”The song is basically about how we were a force and The Beat was our greatest ever player and how we're striving to get back to those days again.”

In 2006 Asa had considerable success in both UK songwriting and vocal competitions. He subsequently sold everything he owned to independently finance his debut album, My Own Worst Enemy, which was released in 2007 and sold in more than 23 countries.

Asa says he hopes his new album will continue to widen his audience: "It's shaping up to be far superior to the first and I am hoping to build on my success nationally."
