Reserves Crash Out

The Blues' reserves bowed out of the S1 Sport Suffolk Premier Cup in the first round as Ridgeons League Premier Division side Lowestoft Town scored two late goals to run out 3-2 winners at Crown Meadow on Tuesday evening.

Midfielder Danny Haynes put the Blues in front in the 11th minute, but the home side struck back before the break. Danny Haynes restored Town's lead in the second half, but the non-leaguers stole the place in the quarter-finals with two goals towards the end of the match.

Richard Naylor played 72 minutes of the game which assistant academy manager Steve Greaves told the club site was the only thing the Town second string could take from a game watched by boss Jim Magilton: "It was a very disappointing performance.

"Lowestoft treated it like their cup final and it proved a real learning curve for a lot of our young players.

"We have played Tottenham and Charlton recently and we have very happy with the level of performance from the boys coming through, but that certainly wasn't the case this time.

"It was a different type of game and some of our players were caught out, but they will learn from the experience and be better for it.

"The good news was that Richard came through 70 minutes or so without any problems. He's tired, but that's only to be expected."

Town: Plummer, Synnott, Robinson, Fenn, Smith, Naylor (C Williams 72), Peters, Trotter, Haynes, Murphy, Reason. Unused: Watson, Tooms, Calver, Barrett.
