Former Cardiff keeper Neil Alexander is expected to join the Blues on a free transfer today, as TWTD reported a week ago. The Scotland international will put pen to paper after undergoing a medical.

The 29-year-old turned down the offer of a new deal at Ninian Park at the end of the season and left the Bluebirds after six years.

Edinburgh-born Alexander made 233 starts and one sub appearance for Cardiff, having joined them in 2001 from Livingston for £200,000. Capped three times by Scotland, Alexander made 75 appearances while at Almondvale, having moved from his first club Stenhousemuir on a free transfer in 1998 after two years and 45 appearances for the Ochilview Park club.

Alexander was first linked with the Blues in May but at the time it appeared that Town were close to signing Richard Wright. Boss Jim Magilton turned his attention back to the 6ft 1in tall glovesman after Wright opted to join West Ham.

Magilton has long been targeting an experienced keeper and last season took Jaroslav Drobný on a short-term deal and Mike Pollitt on loan.

Town are also reported to have received a firm bid for Lewis Price. The Wales international looks certain to leave the club with his first team chances appearing to be limited with Alexander at Portman Road.

The Blues have denied weekend reports linking Danny Haynes with Birmingham City, while Cardiff have said there is nothing in stories claiming they are after former Town loanee Franny Jeffers.

Meanwhile, Hull City have not increased their offer to Town for Alan Lee over the weekend. On Friday, the Blues turned down their second bid of £600,000.
