Former Town loanee Danny Karbassiyoon has been forced to retire at the age of 22. The American made four starts and two sub appearances during a four-month spell with the Blues from late 2004 into 2005.

The former Arsenal full-back, who was released by Burnley last summer, says he spoke to a number of experts before coming to his decision: "I've been to DC and Miami to see different doctors and get different opinions regarding my knee.

"Unfortunately, all the doctors I've spoken with share the same thoughts in terms of the state of my knee - another operation wouldn't guarantee anything but could possibly be a temporary cure.

"They said on top of that, another operation, if I continue playing, would be inevitable in a couple years if that long.

"So, already I'm looking at least two more operations to continue playing and horrible knee problems when I get older.

"As hard as it is to just walk away from playing soccer, I'm trying to be as sensible as I can for my future. Soccer gave me so much and allowed me to meet so many interesting people, while taking me all around the world and I would never trade that for anything."

Meanwhile, former Town boss Joe Royle has been linked with the vacant manager's job at Swansea City, the Swans having parted company with Kenny Jackett yesterday.

Ex-Swansea manager Jan Molby had been linked but says he isn't interested and suggests Royle would be perfect for the role: "Joe Royle's an experienced man, he knows the level and I'm sure he could fulfil Swansea City's ambitions."
