Roberts for Ireland?
Roberts for Ireland?
Thursday, 14th Dec 2006 11:17

Midfielder Gary Roberts has confirmed that he is ineligible to play for Wales. However, the 22-year-old could now become another of Town's Irish internationals.

Roberts said: “My father came from the Republic of Ireland, so I am eligible to play for Ireland or England.

"I am not thinking about that yet. Between now and when my loan runs out at Portman Road in early January I want to concentrate on doing my best to win a permanent Ipswich place.

“Wales is ruled out, and it remains to be seen whether the Republic of Ireland or England show any interest.”

Roberts thought his grandmother was from the principality which would have made him eligible for Wales, however, in fact it was his great-grandmother.
