Did anybody who went make a review of the individuals who played and the obvious selection of the main team for the first half?
Would be good to hear your views

I thought the team in the first half was excellent, with some fantastic football.

Given the players available, I think that team is McKenna's first choice team.

The defence, in particular, was great, and Donacien proved that he is perfectly suited at this higher level.

The only player who perhaps was a little erratic was Taylor but he is only settling in, and may not have played if Luongo were fit.

The team in the second half started off playing some great football, with Jackson and Hutchinson, in particular, a constant threat: Jackson with his pace and running off the ball, and Hutchinson with his pace and trickery.

Freddie didn't get much in the way of service, but did well when he got the ball.

I thought Baggott and Leigh did well in defence but Edmundson (playing on his favoured right side) was rusty, and Ball, playing at right back, looked vulnerable to pace.

Edwards had some nice touches, but perhaps too far away from goal. And Harness was a little erratic. In addition, I don't think that Evans did enough to suggest he will start ahead of the other midfielders.

The conclusion I came to was that bringing on Edwards, Ladapo, Hutchinson and Jackson in games will not really dent our attacking threat, but we definitely need one, if not two, central defenders, given there won't be many opportunities for Edmunson to get up to speed.

Really good assessment and find myself agreeing with a lot of it.

I liked what I saw of Ball at RB right up until the point that Ogbene moved over to that side and started roasting him for pace. Until then I felt he looked like a good understudy RB, but clearly not as good a 1on1 defender as Clarke or Janoi.

It felt like yesterday really showed both the depth of the squad and the weaknesses within that depth. I felt Harness, Edwards, Leigh, Hutchinson all showed that they are more than capable understudies, while Evans and Edmundson showed that they are probably done here. So far off the pace, sadly.

Jackson flattered to deceive - we used his pace well but he then didn't use the ball very well and hit the first man four times in a row when we were on top early in the second half.

I've glossed over the first half, which is unfair as with our strongest available side, we were much, much better than Luton. A lot to be encouraged by, including how well we dealt with their set pieces and general aerial threat - Walton was key to this as he came and claimed the first two high balls.

All in all, really pleasing and would have been a win and clean sheet but for Edmundson's aberration towards the end.

To be fair to Jackson, he didn't have much to aim for given there were far more defenders in the box than attackers, and no one attacked the near post, but he was much more effective in terms of his crossing in the Preston game.

Indeed, I tend think he will be more likely to be used in away games than home games (which last night's game really was) where there is likely to be more space.

Its strange how the same game and people see things differently.

Another report on this forum said Jackson was "close to MOTM". Not saying who is right, as I wasn't there for my own judgement.

Yeah it's a funny one with Jackson. He was a great outlet for us last night and timed his runs really well.

Usually he is very good at picking people out with a low cut back from those areas but his end product wasn't great last night. As another poster pointed out though, Luton were back in numbers very quickly and often it is Chappers who finds space in the 18 yard box to be picked out - he was off at half time and Hutchinson was somewhat more 'enigmatic' in his role!

I don't see Jackson much of a downgrade on Burns in truth. I can see us looking to upgrade on both of them in one of the next two windows though for someone with a better combination of pace and finesse.
