When you actually read some interviews he was actually not keen on fame and fortune, he wasn't interested in the glitz and glamour and said himself it probably cost him a number of opportunities, believe he turned down $2m for a couple of films, he was a bit of victim of his own success though as he stated he only really got gangster roles post Goodfella's.

Incredible to think he turned down Tim Burton's Batman.

It was a bit of a curse wasn't it. A role so iconic, in such a fantastic film, yet leads to being typecast. I remember seeing him in, I think, an episode of Will & Grace, where he lived Christmas all year round.
