Alleged joke deleted as didn't twig the context of the OP.

Apologies.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Is the goal against Forest at home, 81 out there? In the words of Gerry Harrison, ‘what a cracker!’

Thank you for sharing that. I was at the game and while I’ve seen footage of the goal since, I’ve never seen those highlights. What a team - and Mariner led from the front.

As a side line I’d completely forgotten Butcher getting stacked by Withe, probably because nothing was made of it at the time. I like the way when he was face down on the ground, he was being slapped on the back for recovery purposes. Must have helped no end! But up he got, new shirt and on he went. A little different to The modern game.

Apologies for the accidental downvote, very sad news.

I can remember there was a photograph of his back with the stud mark from Withe's boot (at shoulder level) on the back page of one of the tabloids the following day, with the headline "Butchered!". Withe wasn't even booked for the challenge!
