Shortly followed by UKIP warning us about 'men from the moon' coming over here to steal our jobs.

I assume you'll be switching off everything that relies on satellites from now on then? Should make the board quieter. SB

Not sure indifference to space tourism means that you disagree with satellites.

What does it have to do with space tourism? Thus far SpaceX have only launched satellites and cargo to the ISS. They are likely to help launch NASA hardware for exploration. Space tourism might come later but that's not what this is about. Let's at least be precise about things. SB [Post edited 10 Apr 2019 12:52]

To be fair, it's not quite as cut and dried as that, is it? We don't need multi-billionaires depositing their latest convertable in space purely for a PR stunt, do we. That was the last Falcon Heavy, wasn't it?

Whilst being decent PR they needed a payload to test the Falcon Heavy. Historically it's been a lump of metal which was a proxy for a satellite, the car isn't really any different. So it wasn't really a stunt, the rocket needing testing before you send up multi-billion dollar payloads. It would have gone up anyway with a big lump of metal, just as every rocket developed before it had. I'd also say that it was a good move to engage with youngsters, the future engineers and scientists we need as a planet. SB [Post edited 10 Apr 2019 13:08]

First commercial launch of the Falcon Heavy tonight on 14:28 - Apr 10 with 1915 views | floridablue | All the prime viewing areas along the space coast are rapidly filling up (loads have camped overnight). Local news channels are saying an 80 per cent launch chance as there is broken cloud which should hopefully burn off. I'm about 50 miles directly west of the launch site and will be climbing up on my roof (single story) to watch as I've done many a time. Obviously would prefer to be there but with all the traffic delays, cancellations etc, plus having some afternoon beers watching the soccer, roof beckons and hope to hear the sonic booms from the booster rockets return.

Take a video for the board. Last time there were actually flat-earthers (not on here) saying that SpaceX faked the footage using CGI. The power of self-delusion is incredible. SB
