Paul Lambert managerial loan record... 09:07 - Jan 25 with 1884 viewsKieran_Knows

.... now I'll start of by saying I've been very impressed with Lambert recently when he has spoken about us getting an 'identity' and how we need to move away from loaning in players every season. So I've taken a look back through his managerial career to see if this is something he has done at the clubs he has been at, or whether this is something new he is going to try/trying to do with Town.

The results are slightly flawed as there have been a couple of squads that I haven't been able to get an information on, but I'll list everything below - including how many players Town have loaned in the same period.

Livingston June 2005- February 2006
Loan players - Couldn't find any squad information.
Town players loaned in same period - 2 (N/A as can't find information on Livi).

Wycombe Wanderers June 2006 - May 2008
Loan players (06-07) - 4
Town players loaned in same period (06-07) - 1
Loan players (07-08) - Couldn't find any squad information.
Town players loaned in same period (07-08) - 3 (N/A as can't find information on Wycombe).

Colchester United October 2008 - August 2009
Loan players (08-09) - 9
Town players loaned in same period (08-09) - 3
Loan players (09-10) - 1
Town players loaned in same period (09-10) - 0

Norwich City August 2009 - May 2012
Loan players (09-10) - 5
Town players loaned in same period (09-10) - 0
Loan players (10-11) - 7
Town players loaned in same period (10-11) - 6
Loan players (11-12) - 1
Town players loaned in same period (11-12) - 6

Aston Villa June 2012 - February 2015
Loan players (12-13) - 1
Town players loaned in same period (12-13) - 14
Loan players (13-14) - 2
Town players loaned in same period (13-14) - 4
Loan players (14-15) - 3
Town players loaned in same period (14-15) - 3

Blackburn Rovers November 2015 - May 2016
Loan players (15-16) - 5
Town players loaned in same period (15-16) - 2

Wolverhampton Wanderers November 2016 - May 2017
Loan players (16-17) - 1
Town players loaned in same period (15-16) - 3

Stoke City January 2018 - May 2018
Loan players (18-18) - 1
Town players loaned in same period (18-18) - 1

By my rough calculations, that's 39 players Lambert has loaned at other clubs compared to the 43 we've loaned in the same period. Not much in it all really, but hopefully going forward this summer Lambert is true to his word and we start seeing less loan players here and more developing our own.

Apologies for the long post - hopefully you can all make out what I've tried to do though!

Loan players are good if you can get ones that are better than you could get permanently. 2 or 3 max, but bringing in loanees to fill the squad out is the wrong way to go.

Good post. I think the most telling statistic would be Villa where he didn't loan that many, and he had no money to buy there either. Bodes well.

Also that season when we loaned 14 players, who was that?!

That reference has floated on high as far as I'm concerned.

I think you've managed to prove that clubs use the loan system.

Good effort though - it's amazing what some of us will do to avoid getting out of the things we should be doing!

Villa would be the worst comparison to us, as they were an established Premier League team when he was there

I have never been in favour of the loan system for a number of reasons
I have accepted, however, that it is a part of modern football but I still don't believe it helps the game overall.

Presumably the Jewell out, McCarthy in loan-a-thon

Remember we had about 7/8 under Jewell, and then the likes of Orr, McGoldrick, McLean, Stearman, Reece Brown and some others I’ve no doubt forgotten
