Root's and Bairstow's innings will be crucial, especially the former. He needs to be the anchor.

They are better all round sides than us, with India been top of the pile. [Post edited 25 Jun 2019 15:11]

With the exception of new zealand, zero world cups is pretty telling. Bowling is really the weakness despite the batting woes here which are more down to pressure. We've got decent bowlers but nobody really world class. Aussie have got 3 or 4 out and out fast bowlers who are all up there.

To be fair to NZ, they’ve reached 6 World Cup semi finals and finished runners up at the last World Cup competition so they do have a WC history far superior to ours.

It's fair to qualify that with 'tournament history' because England have been very good at ODI over the last four years. And in many ways the problem isn't today but the two half-arsed performances in matches that should have been won.

These types of performances have surfaced over the last 4 years with England, it’s not been just the defeats to Pakistan and Sri Lanka. They’ve been able to get away with it playing in a 5 match series, it becomes glaringly obvious with this type of format with each result being crucial.

Mixed mate. People enjoying their day but worried about the outcome. Bit like Town under Lambert.
