Danny Baker, not a racist but a tit in the extreme.

Poll: Cook out?

It’s the sort of thing that happens when someone tries too hard to be funny.

He was actually sacked from the BBC before I believe. Way back in the mid to late 90's, when I used to tune into his show on a very dodgy radio signal that somehow reached Cork from maybe an emitter in Wales. I can't for the life of me remember what he said, but I'm pretty sure he said something on air (that I heard) and was subsequently given the bullet for it.

It seemed like a real shame at the time, because back then he was genuinely funny. His more recent Saturday morning show was a bit hard to listen to I thought. He still had the amusing "I'm about to say something hilarious" voice, but rarely delivered I thought.

Maybe I'm just too old for all that funny stuff now!

He wasn't.

He didn't work for the BBC that long ago.

Amended. He did. And he was.

My, as they say, bad.

Glad you checked your facts eventually, Facters. Have you lost your mojo?

Seriously, other than early onset dementia (God forbid), what explanation is there?

He has previously been notably savvy.

My staff let me down, but I fortunately checked it for myself.

Not your only one of the evening, "Facters" ;-)

Still, I suppose that gives you something in common with someone else I know virtually nothing about - you and Ben Shapiro both have the good sense to correct yourselves after making a faux pas.

cheers, Phil

Kind of off topic but..

I'm from sweden and my mom bought me "own goals and gaffs" by Danny Baker 25 years ago surely (im 35 today). I've watched that VHS probably 100 times. Remembered his name when i saw this thread and quickly went through it on youtube. Its brilliant and still remember almost every word he says and how he says them 😁

It was after a Chelsea - Leicester cup tie in around 1998.

He didn't give the referee's address out. But he did suggest that supporters would be in their rights to find out where he lives and witch-hunt his house.

Here is a clip which I believe is from that very evening:

Wasn’t that when he was doing the original 606 program? Which he was actually brilliant at doing.

He didnt mean it the way it came out. Talk about blowing things up. The media love anything when they can destroy someone. The whole thing has been taken way out of context.

You can see in a lot of replies to his tweets, people who know next to nothing about him who have decided without question that he is a massive racist and deserves for his life to be ruined.

There seems to be a real undercurrent of angry, judgmental, unforgiving folk in society at the moment.

Its easy to hide behind a keyboard. Most are spotty faced geeks who would sh!t themselves if they actually saw the person they were slagging face to face.

A tit yes....and a racist yes!
What ever possessed him to post that awful tweet.
Just imagine if certain other individuals much loathed by the media and members of this board had posted it?.
They would be calling for a public execution....
