Paul Cook now favourite 01:20 - Apr 22 with 7581 viewsLancsBlue

Paul Cook is now favourite for next Town manager with Skybet. My personal choice from the start. Left Portsmouth after promotion, so might well do the same again with Wigan. Great football and proven success. Knows lower leagues, where we might well be focusing our recruitment. Obvious choice in my opinnion.

Poll: If you watch Town less often than in the past, what is the main reason?

He has been my unequivocal number 1 choice since the day it was announced MM was leaving. I know ME has been a huge fan of his ever since seeing his pompy team come and play us off the park.

Ask Phil!! It is quite common knowledge that ME is a massive fan of cooks and if his continued to follow his progress since Portsmouth then he will not have gone down in his estimation only held in higher regard.

I’m not saying he will or would leave Wigan for us, just that he would be my number one pick. This whole MM saga might have woken ME up to invest more that he previously has, but I doubt it. Don’t forget whilst we may not pay the biggest transfer fees our coaching staff are very well rewarded and we don’t pay peanuts in wages.

ME is also a fan of Gary Rowett, with Derby in free fall and struggling badly he is a strong possibility to be sacked and come to Town.

He does enjoy a night out, nothing more then that. Is a legend in the pubs of Sligo, where he is never asked to pay for a drink

Does Dave Whelan still put money into Wigan or has he sold them?

Hurrah! The bookies have taken a tenner on someone else!

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Any manager at the top of League One (who will be in the Championship next season) is unlikely to come to us. However great we think we are as a club, we are no greater an option for any manager who has a championship job next season - unless there’s a personal link. That’s why Mowbray is a possible, but Cook surely isn’t.

On Mowbray, after Shrewsbury drew yesterday, Blackburn need just a win to clinch promotion.

And if Wigan win their next two (in the next 7 days) they’ll be confirmed as champions, whatever Blackburn do.

Done well at 3 clubs Chesterfield Portsmouth and Wigan. A good track record. I would be fairly happy if he was appointed.

Why?

Why would he?

We have the benefit of history on our side but there really is little between the clubs. He is on to a good thing at Wigan, a young and ambitious chairman, there's just no reason to think he'd swap his current situation for one widely known to be a tough gig in terms of financial support.

He might well see them as one of those teams that can bounce through the championship after promotion from League 1 and I'd imagine they will start as shorter odds than us for promotion.

I just don't see that we are any type of draw to a manager unless they are starting out, winding down or an ex player......which is evident by the majority of names on the betting lists.
