It probably is time for a new Cobbold stand on 14:10 - Mar 1 by Help | I used to work right near there and never knew that. I will have to revisit next time I am up that way and take a gander. |
They've built flats on the old pitch now but I think you can still get in there for a look. If you look on Street View zoomed in to the top of the hill here, you can see a glimpse of the terracing from below, through the trees. https://maps.app.goo.gl/byhZvKzFkzGsGwZq8

It probably is time for a new Cobbold stand on 16:48 - Mar 1 with 799 views | Keno | Ive had a chat with my mate Mick the builder from Skibbereen He reckons he can juggle a couple of jobs pop over at the end May and have a new up and running within a month or so. He cant give a definite timescale, it depends on how many lads he can bring over, what the weather is like and whether he can find somewhere local for the horse. Hes happy to look at re-tarmacing the road and the car park as well but that will extra His only question is 'will yous be paying cash cos if so he can 'do yous a deal if you know what I mean"

It probably is time for a new Cobbold stand on 21:55 - Feb 29 by MattinLondon | When it was built how was it perceived? Was it quite impressive compared to what other top flight teams had? |
It was perceived as affordable - which it proved to be with the forward planning of adding extensions to make the stand its current size. It also offers a good view if you avoid getting the sun in your eyes and hugely increased the number of seats at the ground. This is in marked contrast to the West Stand development which created numerous blind spots and obstructed views - as well as being unaffordable, leading to the break up of the team and relegation - but at least that stand was paid for. Sheepy’s mythical ‘separate income stream’to fund the rather unwise simultaneous North Stand and Churchman’s Stands are probably the most expensive extra seats in football history as they added A small number of new seats and were in effect never paid for when the club trashed its reputation and went belly up….. nor were they really everr needed until the glory seekers attached themselves to franchise foootball two decades later. Anyone who thinks the cowboys are going to put any money into a stand development needs to google Tucson and Rhode Island football clubs… and then check out media income versus spectator income in lil olde England

On the Ball City! Thought that might make you feel at home. With regard to ‘the cowboys’ (makes a change from debt peddlers) in the three years they’ve owned ITFC, what part of their promises have they not kept? Actually, please don’t respond. Us winning games tends to reduce the number of your so enlightening posts which is all to the good.

The rebuilt Churchman’s and North stands added 7000 seats, a 30% increase to the capacity, with good views and facilities. “Just a small number”, what garbage. I agree it was unwise to do both at once, way too risky, and proved a big mistake. Building and financing new stands is the stuff of nightmares for sports clubs.

It probably is time for a new Cobbold stand on 12:11 - Mar 1 by bluelagos | Did a bit of reading on that (on a rainy day) a while back. It was basically a big hole in the ground (an old quarry) with a pitch at the bottom and the sides turned into terraces. Think that wasn't that uncommon a 100 years ago - makes you wonder if it would be a feasible way of building a new stadium - just hollow out a massive hole rather than build huge stands. We’ll if it was good enough for the Greeks and Romans a few thousand years it should be good for us! Would surely help with wind issues. Though may be a bit of a frost pocket.
